They can be an issue. Some manage to last longer but if it was my daily I would look at a good guesstimate interval reading many posts and plan this into operating maintenance. These are much more complex ( awd and TT) than n/a vehicles and have wear and part failure issues that will be outside what one might expect from a n/a vehicle. You are already looking at weaknesses (to include PTU and turbo potential issues in addition to timing chain and H2O pump) so you will be informed to make a decision you are comfortable with. Could it be trouble free for years? Sure. You could also try to get an extended warranty to cover certain issues. Cost:benefit (smiles per mile vs maintenence/repair), risk:reward however you want to think about it should be included with every vehicle purchase.
