There's a reasonably good chance the blend door servo has failed. I've had to replace the servo in both my wife's 2010 MKT and my 2011 SHO. Of course on both of mine the passenger side failed which is a PITA to change. The driver's side is pretty simple. The driver's side and the passenger side use the same part number. The part was actually a couple dollars less from the dealer ($23) than from the parts store ($25) and both had it in stock.
You could try removing the driver's side servo (located above the accelerator pedal mounted on the evap housing behind the climate control/radio) and changing the temperature setting while watching for the servo to turn. If the servo doesn't turn, then I'd suggest you buy a new servo, plug it in, and perform the same test. If the new one turns, you've found your issue.
If the original one seems to work, then you might have a broken blend door but first reinstall and perform a self test/calibration on the climate control system. If the neither the new or the old turn, then the issue is somewhere else, possibly the control unit.
