I went to reinstall my pioneer DEH-7300 yesterday and when I plugged the head unit into the wiring harness it powered up and worked fine. Once I screwed the unit into place in the dash it would not come on at all. I pulled the stereo and checked all the connections and fuses, and all were fine. I had my head unit checked at best buy and it worked fine, but I still can't get it to power on in the car. I'm lost. This is on an 89 SHO with premium sound.

thanks...

If you didnt tape up the extra wires (the antenna wire and sometimes a few others) if you didnt use them, they will blow the fuse...yielding your head unit not turning on.

Sometimes fuses dont look blown, so I would check your manual and see which fuse powers the radio and then replace it with another fuse to see if the head unit works. (this is after you pull it out and check to make sure all wires are taped up, if you used them or not)

Just a thought...you may have tried this already...

A head-unit needs three things to power on:
+ 12V (constant, memory, etc) - Usually Yellow
+ 12V Remote (Remote, Ignition, etc.) Usually Red
Ground - Black

If Best Buy tested it and it powered on after it wouldnt in your vehicle then it is most definately the wiring.

Check the Red Yellow and Black wires and make sure nothing is shorted.

Found out what the issue was. I had the ground on the wrong wire. Instead of it being on the black wire like I originally thought, it was actually supposed to be grounded off the illumination wire. Dunno if that makes sense, but that is what it took to make it work. Funny because I ran the car for 8 months with that stereo hooked up like that and it worked great. I guess I was just lucky and the ground was resting somewhere where it would work. eh, go figure. :bonk:

just redo all the wires and make sure all your connections a real tight because when your stuffing that HU back in the it may mess up one of you connections. if that doesnet work just go through with a voltmeter to make sure all you power wires are doing what theyre supposed to. It obviosly an installer error, just work on it until your really ****** then work on it for about another hour and it should work, thats just the way it goes :bonk:
