Has anyone installed the fix for all the dirt in the door openings (TSB 13-12-2)

I hate a dirty car, and the one thing on the Taurus is all the dirt that accumulates in the door openings. This is an age old problem, covered in TSB 13-12-2, using p/n AG1Z-5420530-DB ($800). I have yet to find any post where someone has installed the kit and absolutely no pictures showing what exactly the kit consists of (not even on the Ford PTS web site).

If any of you have either installed the kit, know of a link showing the kit, or even pictures of it installed please post up. It's like our cars have magical dirt sucking powers to draw crap up into that void.

I was fortunate that a Ford dealer that I use at work had one of the rear cargo inserts laying in stock for years that they sold me for penny's on the dollar, considering that the seal kit lists for $800 and I can't find a single post about someone installing it, I'm thinking any place that stocks it might do the same just to get it off the shelf, but I'd really like to know exactly what it is, and if it works

Lastly, the TSB calls out 2010-2014 vehicles. Has the issue been fixed on models 2015 and newer?

Wait, what kind of weatherstrip is worth over $800? eBay seller(s) has it, but no pics. Tasca has it, and shows list on it is $1271.68 ?!?!?!?!?!

I'm assuming this is for all 4 doors? For $800, I'd just wax the area and spray it with a hose if I was that OCD

Also, do you mean the door jams? Couldn't something aftermarket be found that would help?

Oh, don't think for a minute I'm spending any where near $800 for that kit. I really want to see what it looks like installed and hear if it works. I'm sure at $800 these things are just taking up space on shelves, if it sits long enough most places will deal just to make it go away.

When I wash my car, I take a couple minutes to clean those areas up. I mean... after tax I only make 25 cents an hour... so I would never recoup $800 for weather stripping...

The California Car Duster I use is much cheaper then $800. I've never noticed an accumulation of dust/dirt in any of my door sills, though.

The cost is probably the trim part, for "paint the replacement body quarter trim panel from the dust kit to match the vehicle exterior color". Sounds like not just weatherstripping, but a new mating surface for the weatherstrip.

What is a body quarter trim panel? Maybe this (non-revised part):


Part AG1Z-5429077-AB for one side.

2.0 hrs is for repainting, 2.8 hrs is for installing revised weather strip. Consider you'd have to purchase the base and clearcoat paint and have it applied.

I expect that the kit would have new rear on-body inner weatherstrip, and/or on-door outer weather strip, if not also lower door weather strip, and new unfinished trim panel, for each side. No info to be found confirming the exact parts. The body weatherstrip can be specified in either "dune"/"stone" or "charcoal black", a reason why it might not be included. While the TSB kit is AG1Z-5420530-D and then AG1Z-5420530-DB, AG1Z-5420530-B is the normal door-side front door weatherstrip, so that is some indication you might also get door outer weatherstrip in this kit.

Out-of-warranty, I can't imagine anyone paying for the $850 part pack, plus paint, plus labor. One wonders if the modifications were included after a particular year, parts shopping isn't revealing.

As I was reading your reply, I was thinking the exact same thing - I wonder if after a certain year they changed it. Which would explain why a lot of us don't see anything wrong. As for the ballistic door panels, yeah, I saw those a while back I remember reading something somewhere that said police departments weren't ordering vehicles with them because it drove up the price too much. Go figure.
