I pulled off the drivers rear wheel to inspect the dammage of a swaybar endlink that i knew was bad, I then found some carnage that struck me as odd..
WTFSprings001
After turning ghost white and the initial shock I decided I should check the passenger side also and then found this...

So I guess what I am asking is, has anyone else seen or had this happen to them? How common is it? They are the stock springs.

I tried to tell you that contrary to popular belief, SHO's (the whole car) is not made for off-roading. (The engines can handle it though. :dribble: )

Yea, my sister 94 ATX had a couple broken springs. But yours looks like the spring fell off the holder thingy for it. Might wanna put that back on right. :thumb:

it happened to all four springs on my winter beater ****** (it turned itself into a low rider  seriously the front is 3" off the ground, my jack doesn't even fit under it lol) and i just noticed the the right-rear spring on my sho is broken too. Time to put those Moogs I've had sitting in the garage to use. About that...is there any special purpose for the "insulation" around the springs? should this be copied when putting in new ones? thanks

Yeah I (Mark N.) found a broken spring when it was time to replace my stockers with Eibach's and Tokico's.

Go to any of the larger chain of auto stores and get a shock and strut tool set. They cost about $15 for a set. I had to get them to do my Tokiko/Intrax set-up. Kind of costly for a one-time tool set, but cheaper than having it done by someone else. Also, you can help out other people later (read: make extra money?)

Yea that protector guard stops the broken spring from puncturing your tire. Ford recalled my car to put the guards on in the 90s. I guess it does occur often.

I PM'd James ealier, but wanted to give everyone the part numbers for the tool set for R & R struts and shocks. The tools actually are available at almost any Advance Auto Parts. Ampro part number T72095 gets the entire set, good for replacing just about any shock or strut. Cost as of yesterday is $24.88 + tax.

OT for a second, but what is that metal ring deal atop the strut, and what's it's purpose? I've been wondering about this since I did my struts last winter...

It has been discussed before, but I forget the outcome. They arn't present on Gen I's (I think) and some have removed them and not had any bad repercussions..... Something to provide more dampening I think.

You can pry the metal ring off with a big flathead or equivalent, and a lot of strength. Then you will have better access to the nut.

I run my '95 without those metal rings. The car is lowered via cut Moogs. No problems at all.
