Ok, when I stall my car ('93 MTX) and try to restart it (some of the time) it will just crank and crank until I step down on the gas (floor it) and then it will fire right up. When I go to 3/4 throttle on the car will hesitate and/or buck until I let off the gas (always does this), and when not moving I can smell burnt oil through the heater inside. The cam sensor appears to have oil around it and on it. When the car was on the lift it appeared to have an oil leak from somewhere up above the transmission because oil was dripping down/running down and present on the transaxel pan (bottom of transaxel). The mecbanic said it was coming from the upper right corner of the engine (when standing under it facing towards the front of the car).

Before I go replacing every sensor in the car I need some assurance that the cam sensor sounds like my problem.

The KOEO codes it was throwing are:

211 PIP circuit fault (crank sensor??)
542 Fuel pump secondary circuit failure
556 Fuel pump primary circuit failure
557 Low speed primary fuel pump circuit failure

Can anyone here make any sense of the codes and my problems?

P.S. The fuel filter was just replaced (as I thought it was causing the hesitation problem).

Check your fuel pressure (fuel pump or regulator might be bad) The computer will throw the fuel pump code when it stalls - Terry

I have no clue how to check the fuel pressure but I remember when the mechanic unhooked the old fuel filter he got drenched in premium gasoline and so did the floor, he then commented on the good fuel pressure and stated it was a sign of a good fuel pump (?)!

Fuel pressure guages are available from your local parts store and have instructions on how to use them. You need to eliminate the obvious first before looking to much further. Terry

Thanks for the help. Next time I am at the auto parts store I will ask about that.

[EDIT] I do remember the other day at walmart when I was waiting for my friend to come out I turned the key to the run position and the pump was making a horrible noise and it did it a few times (turned key on and off a few more times) until I started it. Since then it has not done it.

Its not the fuel pump because i have the same problem on my 92. If you stall it or whatnot, and you goto restart it wont, unless you floor it, its done for the past 35k miles i have had it, no rhyme or reason, fuel pump was just replaced, still have the problem, im thinking sensor however, i just checked my codes and all clear. My cars sensors like to break so they dont do their job, but still work so they dont set off the CE light, damn car!!!!!!

Mike,
Any chance your car hesitates from ~3/4 throttle on until you let off the gas pedal?

That 211 fault code is the crankshaft position sensor, or PIP (profile ignition pickup). Has your engine cut out while driving? Watch for the tach dropping to zero when that happens even as the engine is still spinning.

Ok, let me give everyone an update. I am a ice cube now but I cleared the computer codes and ran them again without stalling the car before running them again. Now I am only getting a 111 then a 111 again and no more lights flashed. Anyone care to guess at "our" problem with the starting and my hesitating?

I am gonna go run the codes again after driving it today. I called the original selling and servicing dealership. They told me the owner brought it in because it was mis-firing and they replaced the constant control relay module and he mentioned the code 542. I noticed that this morning the snow under the car had some antifreeze (but not alot) and I think I have it narrowed down to the hose on the driver's sides of the engine. Where it attaches to the engine it appears (it may be) leaking. I can look straight down from the hose and see a puddle of antifreeze and it also appears it is running from there down to the transaxel pan (what I thought was oil was actually antifreeze).

My question is: does anyone know what this module does?

I will run the codes again and report back....I want to get the car fixed as this morning it stalled at the end of my road (again!) and it did not restart as easy. Luckily I was coasting downhill and I threw it into 2nd and popped the clutch and it started right up.

Why would it not start with the key but if I roll-started it?

EDIT:
Even after a few rides around town since this morning and stalling it at the end of my road this morning the car still only has code 111 (systems pass)!
