I recently had (the first!) 60k performed on my 94' ATX SHO (184k miles). I had all the engine work done and also changed the fuel filter (but left the fuel pump alone..it has 80k miles on it). Ever since then my SHO has not started the first time I attempt to crank it. This used to happen on occassion before the 60K (as I've heard most SHOs do) but why would the 60K make my car do it all the time now? I have tried turning the key on and I can hear the fuel pump "whining" but even if I turn it off and then back on it won't start right up.I also tried pushing the accelerator down while I attempt to start it (this almost always used to work). It's like it has to fail at least one time then it starts right up...I'm stumped...you guys have any ideas?

Any help/advice would be appreciated,
Wes

I just replaced the CID about 2k miles ago and had the CPS replaced during the 60k. It's no big deal ....just irritating....maybe it's the recent cold weather here in Ga? Who knows..thanks for the replies.

That's not right. Cold or not, it should always start the first turn of the key. That condition would NOT be due to a bad CID sensor or CPS. It sounds more like a fuel delivery or spark event problem. Check the vacuum line from the front intake plenum to the fuel pressure regulator on the fuel rails. Is the idle air bypass valve's electrical connector plugged in? Did you reset the idle program on the first startup?

I have not tried resetting it (though the battery was dis/reconnected while it was worked on) I'll try that tonight and see how it works. Hopefully that's the issue (yeah..right..with a SHO! ;-)

Thanks,
Wes

Did you touch/change the gasket between intake and throttle body?

1. Make sure you got the right gasket, proper holes in proper position, some people at part department might give you gasket for other cars.

2. Do you see part of the gasket of ½’ x 1’ near TPS? IF not, you might put it wrongly. And that will bring every time start problem because improper air flowing.

Unfortunately, I got both and have no idea with what is wrong until the cold winter coming, I found dirt and smoking out from the gasket area. Open it and ………. Hei, that is my first 60K!! A good lesson and following me for 6 months.

My mistake could be your benefit. I would like to bring that to new 60K-ers, you don’t want this kind of nightmare when you just start learning.
