Ok I've been having a problem with my car recently. It seems at random times my car is having a problems starting. You can crank and crank and it won't start. I just checked the fuel pressure the other day when it happened. Fuel pressure guage on, turn the key to start, you can hear the fuel pump priming, and the pressure was still at 0. Key to off, prime fuel pump, pressure zero. One more time, pump primes and pressure goes to 38. I figure out it should start right up now. Crank and crank no start. So I floor the gas and start it, after a few seconds it starts right up. Fuel pressure kicks up to 40 for a second and then settles to 30 while running. Anyone have any ideas on this one? I don't see how fuel could be getting past the injectors without a reading on the gauge, unless maybe they're leaking? Is that possible? Thanks for any help!!!

im not sure on sho's but on audis there is a check valve in the regulator and if it defective it will take longer to build fuel pressure and as soon as the engine is shut off fuel pressure drops immediately. anyone else have any insight on this?

Yeah i know there is a check valve on the fuel pump, but i don't know about the regulator. When the car is turned off I don't lose fuel pressure, so I was thinking it's not a fuel injector leak, otherwise I'd be slowly losing pressure. I'm thinking it's possibly a pump going south.

I would check to see if you have a coolant leak, You will have a starting problem if hot coolant has leaked on your crank pos. sensor. Just a thought...

Let's see...pump MOTOR runs, but there's no pressure...hhmmmmm.......then eventually does right to spec if cycled long enough....

Wait! I know! Your pump is bad or you have an intermittent 100% blockage of the line!

Fix the intermittent fuel pressure, then see what is still wrong with the car.

Hehe, just checked my fuel pressure today with my original pump on there. 27 psi at idle hehe. Doesn't change if I rev the engine. Whaddya think Steve? Fuel pump bad? :p My new pump should be here tomorrow. I blew it and gave Ron my street address and forgot to instruct to ship to PO Box. Damn PO Box number was on my Zip+4 but the post office decided to teach me a lesson and shipped my package back to sender. Idiots, the PO Box is in the +4 of the zipcode in my town!
