Jus bought my first SHO, and noticed that it is hard to get the thing into first from a stop. any ideas? thanks

there are 2 things it could be. One would be you need slack taken out of the clutch cable (turn the car off, place the car in first, and give the clutch pedal an authoritive tug upward with your foot. If it clicks, you took some slack out). The other would be that your pressure plate is worn down and will need to be replaced. One is cheap, the other is not. Hopefully it's the cheaper of the two!!!

A fluid change could help, It helped my 94. thumbs_u Search out threads on synchromesh as well. :D

Thanks for the help, i will try adjusting it. I know all the tricks of the trade for the 5.0 mustang, now i need to learn them for the SHOI was looking under my car and noticed that there is a steel rod, not cable connected to the tranny, is this normal?

Yes, starting with the '91 (late production), all the SHOs came with a rod shifter instead of cable.
