I know the speedo issue has been touched upon many times in the past. But here's an overview....

The speedo in my wife's 98 SHO won't go past 65mph. If I get pulled over on the highway, the cop's gonna ask how fast I was going...the only thing I'll be able to tell him is "About 2600 RPMS, officer." Somehow I don't think that'll fly very well. Has anyone found a fix for this yet, or do I just need to grin and bear it?

2nd, my gas guage was showing 1/4 a tank tonight after work, so I dumped $27 worth of the good stuff in, which came to a little over 10 gallons....but when I hit the highway, the guage was only reading 1/2 tank. After about 20 miles, it jumped up to 3/4 a tank, then up to full shortly thereafter. Is this a problem with the guage cluster or is the fuel level sensor sticking?

Suggestions? Advice? Funny sayings?

Try re-seating the connector to the ABS system (in front of the batty) as well as cleaning all the sensor rings and sensors to see if that helps. Any chance you're running any kind of white-faced gauges? I've seen those cause the speedos and tachs to hang up a certain points, but with a '98 you should still be able to get over at least 110mph before the speedo drops to zero.

Sounds like you filled the tank with the car running, which will take a while to register properly due to the anti-slosh logic. Turning the car off then on should alleviate that. FWIW, "the good stuff" is only good for the oil companies' coffers. These cars run better on 87 octane unless the outside temps are above 85 degrees F or so -- better fuel economy and more power.

It's got to be the ABS controller. The speedo will get a reading from at least either of the two front wheels.

Hmmm....car's got crappy ebay white faced guages on it, but it's not been an issue until it was parked for a month or two and then brough back out to play. The car wasn't running when I filled the tank...for some reason, I can never bring myself to do that.

So step 1 is to clean the ABS sensors on the front wheels and jiggle the ABS computer harness, right?

Might wanna double check those crappy ebay white faced gauges and make sure that for some reason or another they are binding the speedo needle.

As Curtis said, your white face gauges are probably binding up the needles. First thing I'd check is the needle operation with the glass off the cluster, and pull on the needles a bit if necessary to back them off a bit further.

Tim it's the white face gauges. My tach is currently stuck at 5,600 rpms. It also won't read past 65 either because those crappy gauge things have bubbles/lines in them and cause the needles to get stuck. I'm taking them out this weekend. PITA and a bunch of junk.
