I think my water pump on the SHO may be on its way out. Everytime i drive it long enough to get warm, i get a smell of burnt antifreeze. It appears to be dripping onto one of the cats and burning. My questions are: 1)Is this the correct diagnosis? I'm assuming its the water pump. 2)How much do they cost? 3)Can I get one at a local parts store? 4) How hard are they to replace?

Thanks for your time.

well if you've done any maintinence to your car the water pump should have been replaced, the 60k is essential for these cars to live and it includes the water pump, front 60k service includes, water pump, timing belt, cps, crank and cam seals. took me about 4-5 hours the first time to do it all, took it all apart and reassembled a second time in about 2 hours. the prices for parts for me were timing belt $35, water pump $59, seals about $20-25. cps was $30 on ebay, they are about 100 if you get them from parts stores. I've seen water pumps as low as $35

1) most likely
2) mtx 50-60 ATX 80-90, for the rebuilt front part only. count on $200+ if you need both parts new from the dealer.
3) yes for more $$$, if you can find one. try RCM who sells through ebay. best deal i could find on an ATX water pump was through him...not much of a talker though.
4) water pump alone is a 4/10. if your getting into timing belts and cam seals it's a solid 7/10.

Try loosening the belt, that should reduce, in not eliminate the leak at the water pump. It's a cheap fix and should buy you some time.
