Just got back home after buying my first Gen3 SHO. It's a Silver 1999 with 130k miles. It's got a few issues but I got a very good deal on an otherwise clean SHO so I feel pretty good about it.

The main issue is that the engine idles rough. I drove it for about 1.5 hours this afternoon and it eventually threw a code - I didn't write down the actual code but my ODB2 scanner's manual said it was a #6 cyl misfire. Is this a bad coilpack or likely something else?

There is a creaking/popping noise from the passenger front whenever I turn the steering wheel almost to full lock. Sounds like a bad ball joint but I don't really know how the suspension is put together on these things.

The motor for the power door locks doesn't work - it "fires" but it doesn't actually lock or unlock the doors. I have no idea where to start with this one.

Other than that I am very pleased with it, it's a very comfortable ride with a respectable amount of power. I realize that I'll want to get the cams welded sooner rather than later, and I plan to do full fluid changes next weekend. Anything else I should be aware of?

Thanks,

- Dan

Misfire on a single cylinder is very likely to be the coil pack.

For the front end, I'd start by jacking up the car and seeing if I could find play anywhere in the ball joint or tie rod ends, or wheel bearings.

or the coil pack and cv joint will be the least of your worries.

Got the coilpack swapped out and it runs really smoothly now. I've been it touch with John Stoessel about cam welding, I will pull the valve covers off this weekend and double check to make sure they aren't already done, then we will set up a time as soon as pluasible.

on your door lock issue, you need to pull the door panel and take a good look at the door lock actuator (the part that "fires") and you'll see either a little metal rod isnt' connected or simply the actuator isn't moving very far when it "fires". Most likely a new actuator will fix your problem.
