Yea try to find out what kind of metal those chips are before you drive your car anymore. While you are at it, buy a set of rod bearings and change them right away. It could save your wallet a lot in the near future.

Again, what color are the chips? Silver? Brass/gold? Cast iron gray? Dull or shiny?

Also, how large are metal chips? Where there a "few" chips, a bunch of chips, or a shit-load of chips when you drained the oil. You DID save them, didn't you? (I can see this one ending-up in someone's signature block )

Post a picture . . . .

I didnt save the oil..where my brother works he disposes old oil. but what i believe i saw was that the chips were silvery/gray. The oil was very speckled if that helps at all.

are you still driving this car? something is gonna go ka boom and it wont be pretty. hopefully the thing is sitting. drain the oil again and get those chips so you can figure out where it might be coming from. is your car running weird? i would think it would be if there were steel in it.

The most common failure in the V6 is rod bearings. Do you have any oil pressure light on.

Try not to drive it, you got a saving grace by seeing them.

Drop the oil pan, and inspect.

Did you also change the oil filter? What type of oil filter were you using?

Well, that [sounds] like aluminum chips based on your color description. The good is that the problem is not in the block and could be as simple as the previous person having partially/completely cross-threaded the oil pan drain plug hole and it went unnoticed the previous oil change. The bad is that it could also be from somewhere in the heads, but even this is better than a problem from/in the block.

As shovermont suggested above, flush some cheap oil through the engine and see what comes out. Also, lightly run your pinky inside the oil pan drain plug threads and see if they feel rough. When your draining the oil, run it through a relatively thick shop towel like Brawny, to filter the oil from the metal fragments - then post a picture if you can.

I know this sounds stupid but not driving it is an impossible option. My car is parked on public streets i have to move it, and i have to go to work. I really like this car but theres nothing i can do if it blows up. The guy who i bought it off of lied through his f*cking teeth about the engine. car seems to be running better with the oil change. idk the engine suprises me sometimes. no weird noises that i know of. No oil light flickering. If there was knock i probably wouldnt be able to hear it b/c the ac pulley is shot so the clutch is just hanging there making its noise and the cone filter is really obnoxious.

well, i still think that no matter what you should do you should check the oil again just to see, you can do that after work. if there is more metal the motor will go boom more then likely, but who knows. but did you see the oil yourself or is this just what the person who changed it told you? how much metal did you actually see or was in there? just run what ya brun. =========== <---sho posi

Yeah, it sucks when you need to go to work and it's the only car you have to drive. I had do my rod bearings, but I couldn't because I usually only had one day off a week, so I had no choice but to run it. And then CLUNK. It had actually locked up from poor oil pressure. So I waited a day, and it turned over! But it ran for about ten seconds and THEN spun a bearing. Luckily I had a backup car, which is really almost a necessary standard with SHO owners, haha. But I always see my car and just wish so hard that I would've taken the time to just do some preventative maintenance. And everybody else is right: It's best to do it now instead of having a dead SHO to either try and get a new engine or just sell a dead taurus. These cars are going to be so rare in a few years just because of bearing failures more than accidents, I'm sure.

I always change my own oil....and yes i did see the chips
i believe you can chage your own oil but you need to answer the questions i asked. was it a lot of metal? or just a few flakes? unless for some freak accident you have metal in your oil, your car will probably die if you dont replace those bearings. i dont have much experiance with it but i know i would not be driving this car if i had to even to get to work. you might as well go looking for a new car basically. i dont wanna sound like a dick but if you keep driving, SHOboom

well i looked hard today and for some reason after this oil change there is now a slight tapping noise. There was alot of metal in the oil like someone taking spaghetti cheese and sprinkling it on the sauce. Even if i didnt drive it, i cant leave it on the road non functional. I dont have the facilities to do the bearing change, i am not mechanically inclined either to do so. Like i said i would be UP FOR SOME HELP....money is not a problem i want it fixed.

I'd suggest not starting that motor again, finding someone in the area that could help you pull the oil pan, and have the car towed there. If not, having a non-functional car will be the least of your problems.
