I've been getting the SHO cleaned up and ready to go to the shop for her new transmission. She's got new shoes now, and had a bath this morning!!! Still have a few things to do to her, she was sitting under some oak trees for a while and had some little black dots on the windshield, and hood, I got the stuff off the glass but not sure what to use to get it off the paint, I'll come up with something. Anyway, these pics are about an hour old as I write this. Getting her back to normal. Somewhat. I am really excited to see this on the road. Tint the windows and she will look even better.

Thanks, yes, new window tint is on the list of things to do. The old tint is really peeling so, time for some new dark stuff.

Make sure they keep an eye on the valve body if they just toss the original and throw a random one in could cause issues. When i got my tranny rebuild it was shifting so ******* the 1-2 it was horrible. I had to get a tune to fix it and its not that smooth.

Very nice! I bet you're super excited after getting her all cleaned up and ready to be reborn with the trans replacement.

Definitely keep us posted on the progress, and hope to see some videos of this beast in action soon!

Update: I didn't get any pictures, had my phone with me and meant to take some and completely forgot. My bro-in-law showed up around 10 this morning with the trailer and we loaded the car up and took her to the shop. Had a couple of funny quirks happen. When I drove the car this morning, the low coolant light came on, although the coolant wasn't low, I just topped it off a couple of days ago. When I started the car up and drove off the trailer, the low coolant light wasn't on. Go figure? Also, we stopped so I could put some gas in the tank, put about 10 gallons in, but the low fuel light was still on and gauge was showing empty. I guess these things are the results of the car sitting idle for so long. Hopefully the fuel gauge will work itself out now that it has more than a few gallons of gas in it, remains to be seen. Anyway, she is at the shop now, should have her back in about a week!!!

The low coolant is likely just the float sensor starting to go bad. You will need to replace to reservoir to fix it. Also, once the light comes on, it will not go off until you turn the car off and back on again.

Very possible the fuel level sensor could have been stuck. Not much to them to go wrong. Once you have a few tanks through it, should work itself loose.

I think the only coolant overflow tank I ever had to replace was the GenIII SHO. Very easy and I think I got a replacement unit on ebay for a decent price. This was a decade ago though.

You can still get resevoirs the auto stores, and most are lifetime if not 3 year warranty. Good thing they used the same basic design through to the '07 models.

I somehow managed to mess something up where my coolant light stayed on even if the sensor was new smh. So I unplugged it and that was that :/ that sensor can be pulled out of the bottum of the tank

Thanks for the replies. It's nice to have feedback and suggestions from those who have experienced the same issues. I figure the issues I am having will hopefully sort themselves out as the car get driven some, but if not, it's great to know that parts are still available, assuming the coolant tank is not SHO specific.

Thanks for the links, is there a difference between the original black top tank and the clear one?

I rode somewhere that the clear top is better for preventing the crack appearing on the bottom.

Also, many years of the GEN 4 Taurus had the clear bottle (something like 2003 to 2007).

I'd agree that the clear tops are made with more give. The black tops are more brittle. Of course if its cracking that should be a sign of other problems...

As far as I know right now, the tank is okay. The car is still at the shop at the moment, (Thursday evening). I will take a look at it more closely when I get the car back.
