Oil leak after oil leak, Now the tranny is not acting right.

From a dig it hits the limiter at red line and flutters a couple times before it changes to 2nd. This was an over night problem. It didnt do it yesterday but it did it all day today...well twice. Then I shut it down.

Any suggestions ?

Start saving for a tranny rebuild. Sorry.

Says who?

Check your fluid level first, some of the most simple things can make a problem go away, like changing out an old trans filter.

If you drive it nicely it will last you while you save up for a rebuild. If you keep bashing it, it isn't gonna take you much farther.

I doubt its the tranny my 94 atx did the same thing... i would take off at a good speed and then i would watch the rev limiter bounce a couple times then it would shift into second no codes but seemed to run great except for that .. i got a tranny fluid / filter changed it still acted up i broke down and took it to ford the trany guy took a look at it said it was fine and did not act up ..so i made him get in the car and floored it trying to get it to act up ..the probolem vanished .. the mechanic told me my tranny was in great condition but he told me he manualy shifted it into the 1-2-d while driving to check the gears a couple times ... shifting like that a few times that might of did somthing i mean it was a constant probolem then magicly is gone after the ford mechanic manualy shifts it while on a test drive ...its worth a shot its been 3 months and no trany probolems

Says ME.

He's got a 93', they are the weekest of the ATX trannys. My 93' tranny was fine one day and blew the next. I now have a rebuilt 95' tranny with a transgo kit that shifts quick and firm and when pressed will shift like a MTX flatshift.

I hope I am wrong, but it is only a matter of time if you beat on a stock tranny ATX or MTX.

You can try to change the fluid and filter. But unless it is low and sucking some air bubbles becasue the fluid is all at the back of the pan. I would also agree to start the transmission fund. Just do not put in trans-magic or stuff like that. It may help for a week, but will just end up making it worse. I also agree if you are nice to it, you may buy yourself some time. But it is so hard to be nice to a SHO.
