General engine idle/accel issues?

The '94 has not had the Upper 60k performed yet. The Front was done, however, and since then a strange problem is confusing us. When you first start, the engine will accelerate if pushed hard but it will not accelerate very fast. At some point, it will all of a sudden appear to adjust the timing and it works fine for the remainder of the entire trip. The next time the car leaves, the same deal. Is this a strange timing issue, or is it telling us that the belt is finally in proper timing, but the plugs and wires are in sad shape (and so adjusting the timing accordingly to correct for this?)

The engine also seems to idle a bit low when the A/C compressor is on. I thought that we did the idle adjustment the last time the battery was disconnected, so unless this might need to be redone, any other hints?
