Parts added . . . .

In reference to the Gen III ABS Controller Modules:

I have verified through two different dealer-sources, that the Gen III control modules - according to Ford - DO NOT interchange, nor do the part numbers superceed within any of the Ford Parts information systems. If anyone has any information to the contrary, please post back here so I can get a copy of the information.

I don't know what the difference is. Ford lists three separate part numbers and I do see some superceding part numbers, but none that cross between the model years as listed. Those listed for the 1996 start with F6DZ- and superceed to F6DZ- part numbers, the same for the '97 (F7DZ-) and '98/'99 (F8DZ-) modules. I'll ask around, but for now, my impression is that they do not interchange.

While the ABS pump is the same for all four Gen III model-years, the control modules are electronic modules and it may have to do with voltage/resistance feedback values the modules use, provide, or both. It may be with how the ABS module interacts with the ECM/VSS, as there are quite a few ECM modules. I do know that is why transmissions tend not to interchange from one year to the next following the change to OBDII (for many auto manufacturers) - because of changes in the electronic modules and shift solenoids, even though the transmission hard-parts are the same.

I have heard it does not matter. What is noticeably different between the model years?v

Sure. The '97 module, or are you working on something else ?

The modules are unique to the SHOs, and are unique year-to-year as follows:

  • 1996

  • 1997

  • 1998-99

Not reading all of this im assumeing that your asking is the ABS controller from different years can interchange? YES ALL SHO ABS controllers will interchange between the years.

I haven't talked to him in a while about it, but I am looking to have "st. louis SHO" do an engine swap on my cam failed '97 SHO, and I was wondering if you still had that welded cam 3.4L v8 available, and if I bought that engine if it'd be possible to have it dropped off at his house? Also, I'm looking to do the MTX swap on it, and I was wondering if you happened to have a suitable MTX laying around you'd like to part with?

the welded 3.4 is still there.

if you have James swap your motor everything will get where it needs to go.
