Hi guys, I joined a few days ago but just now validated my account so I could post.

Let me say first that I have searched and done a lot of reading so I wouldn't get flamed by the masters :hail:

My problem is, my car is hard to get into 1, 2, 3rd gears. If I go slow and let the synchros slow down, it will go right in, but it's at least a 2 second delay. (not good when beating up on a ricer, gives them the false impression they're almost as fast as the SHO  )
Sometimes it doesn't want to go in 1st from a dead stop either.

The trans shifts butter smooth easy when the engine is off.

From what I gather reading on here. Texan tony has a shim mod I could try.
I could try a new clutch cable.
Cut the carpet from under the clutch pedal,
or I have TOB / PP problems.

What do you guys suggest I try first?

Another thing: I have a sensor on top of the trans near the clutch arm that is broken off and unplugged. What is this, and where do I buy another one?
I was thinking if this is a speed sensor of some sort, it could contribute to my shifting problems?????

My Car is a 1992 MTX, dark blue with white slicers.
162.*** miles.

I've had the car for over a year but haven't put many miles at all on it.
My plans are to do a full 60K, valves, t belt, water pump, CPS, etc.
Rod bearings.
get this shifting thing figured out, and maybe a hi po clutch.

Then, a 75hp wet shot :dribble:

Thanks for any help you can offer. I wanna get this baby shiftin smooth, cant stand grindin em and I know it's baaaaad for the MTX.

I gather from more reading that I should also change the trans fluid.

What would you recommned that is readily available? Napa, autozone, checkers, carquest, etc?

I like Redline MTL but don't wanna wait to order it online.

Thanx

Welcome!!!

I would 1st try replacing the trans fuid. Any MER-V synthetic will wok fine. @nd step would be to drop the trans and inspect the clutch (ie. TOB, pressure plate fingers). After that it's on to the gear box (oh joy?!?).

The sensor which you are refering to is the backup light switch. About $42.00 @AZ.

I have the exact same problem. I swapped out the stock tranny fluid with Mobil 1 synthetic with no change at all. I'm not looking forward to changing out the clutch.

Change the trans fluid just for fun. It would also be a good time to install a drain plug. If I was a betting man, I'd say it's time for a NEW clutch.

NEVER run a wet shot of nitrous on the SHO engine, unless it is direct port in the secondary runners.

When your ready for N2O, get yourself a ZEX 82011 (DRY) kit!

Thanks for all the feedback guys.
I will definitely change out the trans fluid with some good ole Merc 5 or synthetic if I can find it.

I read on shotimes I think about drilling the trans and putting in a drain plug. I'll probably do that too.

If it ends up not being the trans fluid, what would I try next?

And on the wetshot, I've gather that a direct port fogger system is the only way to do it or it will puddle in the intake, so for cost wise I may start with the ZEX dry kit and upgrade it to a direct port system later.

Forget the wet idea, dry shot is what you want.

Mind if I ask why?

I know the 75 or maybe 100 dry shot will be about as much as my trans and engine will handle right now, but with a built engine, trans, and hi po clutch, isn't there much more potential for power out of a wet shot. Say a true 150 shot or so?

I think once Doug? got it nailed down it worked great for him. Just trying to learn though.

Thanx for the advice
