I recently purchased a MTX 1994 Ford Taurus SHO with 85000 miles. The body and interior are immaculate. I changed the oil twice in the few months that i have had it. After about 700 miles or so the oil starts to look and smell gassy on the dipstick. My mileage is about 18-20 average. I usually change the oil every 2000 miles and am good with replacing air filter and general maintenance since it is a high output engine. The fellow that had it before me had a new fuel pump put in prior to my purchasing it from him(could too much fuel be going into the engine?). Does that have anything to do with the gassy oil? When the car is warm and is shut off and is started soon after(when the engine is warm)it will only start while the fuel pump is priming. When the fuel pump is done priming i have to give it gas to start. This occured in my old car. Is it a Fuel Pressure regulator? Thanks alot.

Welcome to the Forum!

To check the FPR, disconnect the vacuum line and inspect for fuel inside the line. If it is found, replace the FPR.

Your starting problem and gassy oil sounds like one or more leaking injectors. Cycle the switch a few times, then pull each spark plug and look for gas in the cylinders. You could also pull the intake, then pressurize the fuel system and see the dripping from a leaking injector.

Thanks alot, i will look into that. The injectors should last longer than that! Oh well, to have this car i knew i would have to put money into it. "ShoSHop" for about $15 G's they will "find you a salt free california car; make it out pace a corvette, handle better than a BMW, and brake faster than a Porshce."(paraphrase)Thats pretty good. I hope to have the car supercharged in the near future; about 400 ponies, sounds good to me.

Don't believe everything you read onthe internet

Yes you can have 400 ponies but for less than that and have someone better do it for you..

I had the same situation when I got my '95, but it was EXTREME. Cause was overly rich mixture and poor combustion, as a result of O2 sensors and bad plugs and wires.

This may or may not be your problem, but it may be worth a try since this stuff is probably original and is about due for replacement anyway.

Thanks electriccat! Hopefully that is it. Althought the fellow said he replaced the O2 sensors and the 60000 mile tuneup was done. OH well. Where are the Oxygen sensors by the way? I didnt think it could be the fuel injectors as the first dude said, but maybe.

I would NOT drive the car very much until the problem was fixed for sure.

Gas thinned oil is a VERY short route to wiped crank/cam journals and trashed cylinder bores/rings/pistons. Each time the piston moves in the bore with washed cylinders like that, it's metal on metal contact...

Hey Jeffrey, not sure if you know or not, but there is a pretty strong SHO club in chicago here. If you haven't already, check out www.shocago.com There are a couple of guys on there that know a **** of a lot about these cars, aswell as the many of the great folks on here.

You could have worn rings too. It couldn't hurt to check them also. And from what I hear about SHOshop, it would probably take months to get a sho from them. burnout
