I ran the codes on my '91, got an 87 - which says to check inertia switch, FP relay, and fusible link.

Inertia switch is ok, fp relay is ok, but I can't find the fusible link.

Any help?

Did you check the fuel pressure on the fuel rail. Sounds like you have a bad fuel pump. My car threw a bad FP relay, i replaced the pump and it ran like new. Is your car down on power? Does it idle low then stall out?

Well, it seems a little down on power, but I don't trust the "butt-dyno."

I do think it's a fuel pump problem that requires a replacement, but I wanted to go through all the other tests first before I drop the tank.

As an update, the fuel pump only cycles for a split second now when I turn the key on.

I tried the FP jumper on the EEC module earlier and the FP would cycle for 2-3 seconds before shutting off. I believe it is supposed to continue to cycle in that mode.

As to pressure at the rail, I haven't gotten a pressure gauge on it yet, but when I depress the relief button inside the schrader valve, all I got was a short spurt, then nothing.

If the engine was running, I got a steady stream.

The only code it threw was "87", which indicated an electronic problem in the fuel delivery system.

So I am just trying to check everything before I get down there with the rust and the beater bar.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I know what you are talking about. When i did my fuel pump there was so much rust cuss . I snapped one of the bolts. If you end up replacing the pump take your time and use lots of liquid wrench/PB blaster. Good luck.
