i have a 94 mtx.when i turn the key on or crank it the gauge goes as far as it can past fuel and stays.i checked the forums to start off.i checked the 18# fuse and replaced it just to b sure.i checked the ground and ran one my self to the - little wire that runs off the ground to the battery.still did the same thing went past full.i had to replace the wire connector that went to the fuel pump sending unit a bit ago cause it just went bad.i know its all good i check the connectors all good.i un hooked the ground from the sending unit turn the key on same thing.ok get this i unhooked the wire to the ground and sending unit wire altogather and still went pass full with nothing connected but the fuel pump.i replaced the pcm to not long ago so thats not it.the only thing i can think of is the cluster gauge is bad.my temp gauge works btw.

I hope someone chimes in soon because I'm having the same exact problem. The gauge always goes above full. I have to estimate how much fuel I have. To fix this do we have to remove the cluster and such?

There is an anti-slosh module built into the cluster. It prevents the guage from bouncing around while the car is in motion, try holding the float on the sending unit in one position for a while, maybe even try unplugging it.

If you unplug it, it should read empty. However if you unplug it, and it remains on full, you have a short somewhere.

o well thats not good cause i replaced the connector a while ago with 3 feet of wire and i can unhook the sending unit ground and and + and it still goes past full so a short it seems it might b.my car door leaks right there where the wires r going on the floor panel so that might b where it shorted.i ll look in to that.thanks
