Fuel Cut Off Switch

Help me out with this:

What is the normal position of the fuel cut off switch located in the trunk?

Right now, the button is pressed down.

How do you make it come back up?

COULD THIS HAVE BEEN THE REASON FOR A NO START....

Please advise.

Push it in if you want the car to start, provided that is the problem. If it is out, the power has been cut to the fuel pump. You can cycle the pump just by turning on the ignition. If you hear the pump the cut-off switch is not the problem.

The first question is are you hearing the fuel pump prime when you turn the key from off to run?

You can test the mechanincal functionality of the IFS switch as follows: Give the general area of the switch a good whack, and you should hear a kind of wind-up springy kind of noise and the switch should pop up (you may need to try a couple of times). Push the switch back down and it should click and remain down. If your fuel pump is priming, you can test the electrical functionality of the switch by trying to prime it while the switch is up and you shouldn't hear it prime.

Let us know first about the fuel pump priming. We can give you some further tests to perform on the IFS switch, but they rarely fail.

For a moment I thought my fuel was shut off.

The red button has always been press down, ah well.

I still can't figure out why she won't start....

I forgot to answer the question, yes, the fuel pump is priming. I put in a brand new fuel pump this past weekend. Prior to that, I installed a brand new IRCM and starter.

....any other ideas why she will not fire up???

Air, spark, and fuel. Those are the three things needed for combustion. Have you verified that all three are present in the cylinders?

You should check to see if you have fuel pressure, spark and that the fuel injectors are firing. And i would also check for any codes in the computer.

Could you please explain to me how to do the following:
1. Fuel pressure
2. Spark
3. Fuel Injectors

Question:
I installed a new fuel pump and I can hear it priming/humming, doesn't that indicate I have fuel pressure?

I have recently done my well gaskets, new plugs and wires, what are the chances I do not have spark?

I did check my codes and it came up 556 and in memory 543. Both which indicate a fuel pump relay circuit. I have changed out the IRCM and fuel pump to begin, but continues to show the same codes as it did before changing out my fuel pump.

I guess the next logical question is:
1. How do I check fuel pressure and fuel injectors?
2. What is a safe way to check spark?

To check fuel pressure, you can pick up a fuel pressure tester at a parts store. You will use the schrader vavle on the fuel rails to test this (looks like a regular tire valve stem). With the car idling, you should have 28-32 PSI PSI and disconnecting vacuum from the fuel pressure regulator should yield you 38-42 PSI.

To test your injectors, you can take your intake of and ground each injector by grounding the non-red wire (I use stripped wire for this). From there, you can watch the injectors work from the ports. Do not shoot too much fuel in the ports in this test.
