I believe I have a front wheel bearing going out. Any idea on how I can tell if it is the left or right side? Last time I replaced the wrong one first so I ended up doing them both. I just want to make sure I am not doing that again. All I can tell is that it is coming from the front. Any help appreciated.

Should be able to tell by which side of the car the noise is coming from. If not you can drive it around in an arear where you can make 90 deg turns to shift the weight off of the bad bearing and the noise/groan should change. You can sometimes turn the rear (no rotor/caliper installed) by hand and tell if its bad but there is much drivetrain interference to do the front by hand.

You can jack the car up and try wiggling the wheels. It's pretty apparent when there is play.

both ways have been said, if its a very faint noise there usually isnt play, if its real bad there will be alot of play in the wheel
