As far as I can tell, no one has actually claimed any advantages of the solid mount over the chain concept, other than the fact that the chain is "ghetto", "ni**A rigged", "risky" and "dangerous", with no explanation about how or why this is the case.

The chain, on the other hand, is cheaper, quicker, easier, doesn't transmit vibration under compression or stasis, and limits engine movement (and in both directions if you use 2 chains) same as (or better than) a solid mount. At least three well-respected forum members (not counting myself) defended the chain idea as being at least a good solution, if not superior to a solid mount.

The chain may be safe, effective, and an excellent solution... but that doesn't make it not redneck. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not dissing the chain method, I think it's brilliant... but come on, you have to admit it looks a little redneck. I mean, come on. It's a chain.

yeah ok but you dont see it it under the hood so who care

True, true... but it's kinda like holding your exhaust up with a coat hanger; yeah, it works, and no, you don't ever see it, but...

Or idunno. It might just be me. Surely there must exist a... more elegant solution than a linked chain. Perhaps a strap of some sort?

Yup. I see it as a "no frills" kind of thing. It's kinda like marrying a fat chick. You may not be proud to strut around town with her on your arm, but she's probably a better mother than a peroxide-laden silicone-implanted 110lb. California girl.

There ya go. Rednecks may be stupid 99% of the time, but every now and then you find a brilliant redneck engineer. I consider Paul and Smokey Yunick to both be in that category (hope you don't mind me saying that, Paul ;)).

Since we're still on this beat subject...
luigisho likes the chain idea,
luigisho likes the idea of soild mounts,
luigisho likes the idea of reinforced mounts-- or anything that will help reduce excessive movement under the hood

Shared experience with, and reasoned debate about, different methods=good

Other stuff= silly on the interwebs

Hear, hear.

If it sounded like I was trying to turn the pressure up on this ******* match, I apologize.

I also think reinforced and solid mounts are good ideas (I have had and enjoyed each on my cars at one point or another, including currently), I just didn't understand the unexplained disdain towards the chains.
