Hi everyone,

Im following ShoPhoenix website instructions on this one.. however, since I have an ATX I noticed some differences and now have a small problem. I noticed the ATX doesnt have an engine dampner where the MTX is.. no problem. got the upper timing off.. However I broke the middle cover in half. Clean break in the middle not a big deal. However, the other half is stuck, hence it broke. The idler pullies are off, but theres this big bracket where the accessory belt tensioner pulley was attached to that it is stuck on. What is this black bracket and how do you move it to get the middle cover off?

CN: Bracket where ATX accessory tensioner pulley WAS attached to (not any longer) is blocking the middle cover from being removed.

Thanks Im done for the evening, but tomorrow is another day :):type:

EDIT: Found an ATX procedure on shotimes.com so I think the combination of both will suffice.

PS: Its so much easier to work on a car when you dont have to worry about having to drive it the next day to work .. Hhahahaa.:type:

I was doing a front 60K on my ATX too and I am having the same trouble with the ATX accessory tensioner pulley bracket. After I removed the pulley, I pulled on the tensioner and the front face and spring popped off. I looks like I broke the shaft the springwinds up on.

Did I break it? How should I remove the back half of the tensioner?

On the opposite side of the tensioner mechanism (opposite in the sense of next to the pulley) is a bolt that goes through the middle. Simply unscrew that bolt and the tensioning assembly will come right off. Their is a '******' on the back of the tensioning assembly that indexes it on the block for reinstallation. Their is no need to remove the accessory pulley off the tensioner.

So the fact that I have a front "face" and loose spring with the back half still attached to the block means I broke mine in half?
