I just replaced my timing belt tensioner in September, and now I'm getting that nice ticking noise again. It was quiet enough to be an injector previously, but now it's getting louder. It gets louder up to 2500rpm, and then goes away at 3500rpm. UGH, frustrating!!!! Oh well, at least I can get the replacement for free, since it's under warranty.

Just did mine...it "ticked" between 1500 and 2000 rpms. Sux you have to rip the front of the motor apart again though...then again didn't you think your crank sensor was wigging out? :corn:

Yeah, I did. Turned out to be bad gas.

On the plus side, I'm getting myself a y-pipe fabbed up tomorrow. One cat is hollow, and the other is breaking up (had a muffler shop look inside). Good enough excuse for me :).

That sucks, didn't you replace it with a new one?

Not tryin to hijack but what makes the tensioner go bad in a couple months time, anyone know? And is there any way to visually spot a bad tensioner or one that may be bad soon? Do they need oiled or something  ? Sorry one of the many things I know nothing about LOL Thanks

Mine is fine now that the tensioner was replaced. The origional one was totally fried.

When the tensioner starts to go there is a tapping noise in the lower rpm range coming from the front timing belt cover. They just wear out over time like anything else (unless its a Honda  )

LOL it could be worse. I keep fixing parts on my 94 and more keep breaking...I now have a timing chain tensioner tapping :nut: So now I have to pull the intake and valve covers again to replace the darn thing and the VSS while I am down there :bonk: :nut:
