Rod Bearings and Clutch?

Just wanted to give an update.

In the last week or 2 I have been noticing a strange feeling the clutch pedal. I pm'd sdpatt about, and his description was:

So in light of this, I am wondering the possiblity of NOT doing the front 60k w/rod bearings, but to do the rod bearings and replacing the clutch, TOB, and flywheel. Give me some feed back... and we can go from there. Like tools and equipment needed.

I am really GREEN, a NOOB and have never ever replaced a clutch in anything. I really need some guidance and help in getting this accomplished. I know that Eric V wants to get his MTX trans swapped, so maybe we can do both with the right equipment, and space permitting.

I am placing an order for a clutch and flywheel today, in an attempt to have it before next Saturday's meet on the 17th.

I've done a **** of alot more trans swaps/ clutch jobs than 60k's. Lord knows I completely cleared NW Ohio of all available MTX's for a little while there. Nitrous and open diffs don't mix.

Boat... what type of subframe bushings do you have? Now would be the time for an upgrade with the subframe out. Other than an engine holder there are no specialized tools you should need... thank god that suspension was all recently apart so it should come apart pretty easily. Of course if you wanted to upgrade motor mounts and the trans mount now would also be the time.

The previous owner put in Gen 3 subframe bushings maybe, 15k miles ago.

I replaced the front motor mount not long after the suspension was done with a SHO Source re-enforced motor mount. I just picked up a SHO NUT rear motor mount, and I have a newer trans mount, not sure if it is better than what I have now. I also thought about replacing the front strut rod bushings and LCA's, all of which I already have.

Part order update.

The clutch was ordered this morning around 10am and according to Rock Auto, I already have a tracking number from FedEx as of about 3pm this afternoon.

I also ordered the new shift shaft bushings from SHONUT along with a resurfaced flywheel this afternoon. Josh said I should have these parts by or before the 17th.

Anyone have an engine support brace? Or should we take out of the top, since we are replacing the rod bearings also?

If you have a harbor frieght local they sell one that's not too bad and it's pretty cheap. It's always a nice tool to have around when you're a SHO owner.

Well.. let me re-state.... I have my hoist... its just locked up in a garage where the owner is still carrying out his 45 day sentence for being a bad little boy. I'm not buying another one just for sport. Personally I can swap a trans with a pair of jacks and a set of stands if thats the way it's gotta be.

The point of my trans swap is the fact that I don't have to spend any money..


I was wondering however if Harbor Freight has an engine support. I swear I seen one in there a few years back. Not certian tho.

What we are replacing, what I have:

Rod Bearings, Oil Pan gasket,
oil pump pickup tube Have it
Clutch, TOB, and Flywheel Waiting for it, but should be here this week, Have ceramic TOB
Driverside Axle Have it
Axle seals Storm is ordering
LCA's have them
Strut Rod Bushings have them
Exhaust Manifold studs to
ypipe w/ lock nuts have studs, waiting for locknuts
Rear main have it
Rear motor mount have it
Trans mount, (if it needs it) have it


Can someone bring a butane torch to heat up the exhaust manifold studs for easier removal?

Depending on weather and how well we are doing with the work load by lunch/dinner time, most likely for convience and time, probably will get pizza and breadsticks for the eats.

It is a 1 and half car garage, with a 2 car garage door. Might be tight in there.

It is at 2222 Webster St. Corner of Webster and Creighton. Does he have the engine support, that you put over the top of the engine, rather than the hoist?

Nope, he bought a hoist just like mine after he f'ed up mine.. lol nice huh... that reminds me I need another screw for the bottom of mine.


How do you figure it's a 1 1/2 car garage if it's got a double door.. lol ? does it get narrower by the door? lol

No, half of it is big enough to get a car in one side, while the other side is about half the size. From the front it is very misleading, but the back half of the left side of the garage, well, its not there. The left side is about big enough for the workbenches that are in there.

If I am out of line on the amount I want to accomplish, then we can scale it down. I am NOT interested in killing everyone and making it a stupid hard day. Sometimes I have lofty ideas and want to get a lot accomplished, but I also want to be realistic too.

So, maybe just the clutch, or maybe just the rod bearings and front 60k?
