ecopowerparts.com offered Carillo forged parts for the rotating assembly years ago. Glad to see more options. Honestly tho, if you are getting that deep into the motor, do a Livernois build. Not that I am against small upgrades here and there. We are all curious as to whether these are of any benefit

I would take the word of the man who works with the internals of our motors, vs the part changers.

I dont know weather to take the fords word or the guy on here that does the engine work. Id rather just get a stock motor and put my own internals in it because I know not to trust ford on stock forged components from the time i had with my cobra. You get what you pay for. I got arp 2000 bolts also on whatever connecting rods i buy. Ill figure it out. I got money, i just need time away from work to do what i want.

I was looking into just buying their engine since it will have a warrenty with a tune. Where as a ford engine’s warrenty is voided with a custom tune. But id rather do it by putting the parts and bolts in it that i want. Not that i dont trust the livernois closed deck block. I tried to order it twice in the past online but it wont allow it to ship to my area

Im sure there is benefits from better rods and pistons and fasteners that can handle 1000hp. But being open deck engine stock will cause issues. And having no room to upgrade to large turbos and the ptu will probably exploded if i crank up those arp turbos. Id like the sho to be around 700 or so crank hp but it will probably destroy the car. I dont try to flip flop, i just want a high hp sho but it ends up not being practical and gets my brain back up on the fence about it. Unless livernois makes a ptu, i was told by a sales rep last year that they did but ive never seen it on their website. Must just be a in shop rebuild of your stock one when you drop car off

I sign into livernois and the engine is still sitting in my cart. When i put payment info in again and hit confirm purchase it says they do not currently ship to my address. Probably because its a custom order they make to ship out. I guess ill just call in later if i got time

I did some of my own research today. I live directly across the street from a Ford dealer and have for the past 10 years or so. Im close friends with the owner. I went over to see him this morning while they were closed and a few mechanics were in there working i guess finishing up some cars for tomorrow and i got talking to him. They told me and showed me on their system. There is no engine difference from a no pp (performance pack) sho to a yes pp sho and a police pack sho has the same exact engine and engine code as the sho. No internal differences on the sho or police intercepter. There are changes year to year but not within the same year across sho and police intercepter. Police has differences in the awd system and cooling and all but not internal. The f150s have forged pistons where as the sho does not and ford says they can swap in because of head design is the same but the compression may differ depending on the year. F150 and sho have the same connecting rods. Same part number. So they answered my questions. One of the mechanics showed me a boostcity website that has forged rods and pistons for f150 and sho with different compression pistons i can order. 8.5:1 forged pistons they sell for f150 and sho same part number. I asked ford directly hopefully i got good info from them. They told the suv mustang is real and coming soon and i laugh at the direction ford is taking. I sat in the edge st and it looks close to what an updated interior of a sho would look like. I guess that was there replacement for the sho

I took pictures of the two different pistons that go in the SHO and published them on this website back in 2015. You can tell the PP by the appearance of the top ring and how it’s seated. Until the dealer can pull the piston out of the engine and show you a PP and then a non PP I suggest you stop talking about things you know nothing about. The limitation here is the dealers word and they obviously have that pulled pistons on both motors.

I would definitely trust the guy who works with the blocks for ford over the dealer. **** I had 3 dealers tell me the performance package wasn't a real thing because all SHOs were performance vehicles. These were all Ford dealers as well.

Ok. Are you saying the police engine is better or the actual pp (performance package) engine. And will both go in my non performance pack without a ecm change?

He is saying the PP and PI are the same engine. Both should go in your non PP without a ecm change.

All police cars and Police explorers use the PP engine internals as well as any sho with the PP option. They are one in the same engine. That’s the one you want to get if you are rebuilding

Different build codes are created each year I can get you the 2019 codes if there still posted remember this motor went out of production a couple of weeks ago. I will walk down there right now and look
GS-490-CA non PP engine
GS-488-C.A. POLICE WITH OIL COOLER engine
FG1E-6006-DB POLICE SERVICE LONG BLOCK
FG1E-6006-CB NON PP LONG BLOCK
These are the numbers that the latest explorers were built under and I know the intakes are different from the explorer to the Passenger car. I believe these numbers will show up in the order book A vehicle with an oil cooler will almost always be up PP I don’t work in a transmission plant but I am sure a transmission oil cooler will also be up PP

shoblock, good to see you on the board, great source of information on our vehicles. I work fleet and although we don't do monthly calls with the Ford BQM's like the bow tie brand, if we see issues in the fleet we can generate TechTips on line that guys like you access. I've had responses to specific problems from Ford within minutes of adding issues via TechTips so I can honestly say Ford does take problems reported seriously and provides great bi directional communication.

I contacted livernois and they have a rod and piston combo for sho im going to order. I already have an oil cooler and tranny cooler on my non pp sho. Added on goodies

Based on NUMEROUS conversation with others that have done motor builds and shops that do motor builds. one of the biggest advantages you can do if you are seeking to build the SHO motor is the get a closed deck. LMS is the only ones I am aware of that offer that option on their race motor. I believe BPD1151 went with that option as well.

Im all for a closed deck engine but do you know of a company that already has built transmissions to handle a full out race engine while keeping the awd. Ive been reading on about the stock transmission is the sho and most of the time its a pin in it that fails and you lose gears. Other than small things, can the stock gearing handle more then the 600whp? I was trying to find what things commonly break with peoples trannys, to see what actually didnt break initially

A retaining ring on my 3-5-R failed and caused my trans to eat itself. There is not an upgrade for the SHO platform. We are fringe platform, so bigger companies are not going to throw money at them.
