Can you take a standard Gen 1 Taurus am/fm cassette radio and install it into a Gen I SHO that is equipped with the premium sound or JBL system? I realize the standard radio will not have the amplifier wiring, but will it still work? This is probably a stupid question, but I'm not good with electronics. I'm working on learning more about them.

Yes, but Why? If you're going to take the time to install a new HU, why not spend a little more $, and at least get one with a CD player.

I don't believe it will work with the slave CD player if that's what your after.

As far as wiring goes, you could get some harness adapters, splice those up and make one that goes from ford unamplified male to amplified female. Just need to do the speaker wiring the other set is the same.

You can just plug it in. You won't need any adaptors at all. When you remove the stock head unit (I would take out the coin holder also for some extra room) Look in the hole to the left and you will see another set of radio connectors. Unplug the black connector and gray connector and they should just plug into the base model Ford radio. If you go back to a JBL set you will need to plug the black and gray connectors back into the other connectors.
