Description:

The engine was originally intended for training purposes by Ford Motor Company back in 1989 but was never used. The engine is located in Mason Ohio. Pictures are attached below. Here are the comments from the seller:

· It’s a SHO 3.0L V6

· It appears to be new and never has been disassembled. Still strapped in the shipping crate.

· It’s a fully dressed engine. Wiring, complete ignition system, complete fuel system, front accessories with FEAD belt, and intake & exhaust manifolds, flywheel and engine accessories including alternator, power steering pump and A/C compressor.

· I found what appears to be a build date on the cylinder head, if I’m reading it correctly, it was built in 1988.

· Engine turns over freely

Although this engine is new and has never been used, it is sold “as is”, and there is no warranty of any kind applicable.

With prior arrangements, the engine could be inspected at the Mason, Ohio facility.

Accepting Bids:

The Opening Bid will be $1,500. So, the first Bid must be $1,500 or greater. Bids will be accepted until Thursday, 10/10/2019, at 8:00 PM EDT.

Enter the Bids as Comments below. The Bid should contain: The word Bid, the dollar amount, as well as your actual (not Forum) name.

Now, we are not professional auctioneers! If there are bids coming in at the deadline above, I will wait until the bidding stops. Figure on waiting 15-30 minutes after the apparent last bid before I declare a winner. My decision, at that point, is final. The winning bidder will have a reasonable period of time to make arrangements with the seller. If the deal with the winning Bidder falls through, for any reason, the engine will be offered to each successive bidder, at their final bid price.

Purchase and Pick-Up Logistics:

The winning bidder will be put in contact with the seller, to make payment and pick-up/delivery arrangements. For payment, the statement I received was: “We would prefer COD but could work with the winning bidder through Pay Pal if necessary”.

As was mentioned, the engine is in Mason Ohio. There are a few options for taking ownership of the engine:

1. Picking it up at the Mason Ohio facility. The facility has a forklift so it could load it on to a truck. This is the best solution.

2. Delivery to your location. The buyer would need to arrange delivery (I’m sure this won’t be cheap).

3. Arranged Delivery. The seller could arrange free delivery somewhere between Mason, OH and the Milwaukee, WI area If the delivery date and time can be flexible. The engine would be driven to the designated location however, the buyer would need to make arrangements to get it off his truck. This would be an option to work out.

Other Comments:

If you have questions, you can post them in the Comments below. Or, you could PM me directly, but if it’s a question that others could benefit from, I’ll post it here.

Hey Ron & gang! I haven't been on here in years. But I had to comment I also obtained one of these crate engines from the NJ Regional Training center roughly 10 years ago. Glad there is still another one around. The one I obtained had already been dissasembled by a local High School, but this one is still in the crate. However I was able to see inside of mine that the engines get test fired at the factory and had just a little bit of goldish residue on the valves and the piston tops. That was cool! The High School auto shop didn't mess mine up too much so it wound up in my 94 5spd. Good luck on finding another one if you pass on this one!

Hi Lee!

IIRC, you told the story of that engine over on the SHO V6 Mailing List (yep, it's still around) way back then.

I'm just amazed that this one had been just taking up space for 30 years!

For some reason, the front of the intake, with the DIS, looks different in picture #3, but it could just be the camera angle. Was your engine the same as the one you removed?

Giving this a bump. C'mon, folks! Great chance to get a great engine for relatively cheaply.

Guess everyone waiting like it's BaT,
I have no room either but want it.
My engine is still good at 18?K, now if you were selling the rest of my car new for a transplant I'm in 100%
I'm between Mason and Milwaukee, somebody better bid or I'm taking it.
Gotta go now search for building plans for the dog house I'll have to build for myself to sleep in.

No parts will be sold off this museum worthy piece of history so don’t ask for rod bearings.
It’s my 22nd wedding anniversary tomorrow, maybe my last. Someday parked next to Don’s cut away from Hot Rod Magazine.
Cheers

Hey ron its been a long time
I bought a complete SHO motor that was a test motor for Ford and had been sitting for years. Engine was great !!
Im curious if the new owner had to replace a few valve springs. I did
Seemed that the springs that were totally compressed lost its rigidity and a had to replace a couple of springs

Hi Don,

I know that Tom hasn't done anything with it yet, and as I understand, it's in storage at Adam and Michelle's basement. Tom will have to chime in, dunno what his plans are.

Go to your local salvage yard. These motors are laying around everywhere, and run for ever. Used motors are good too
Yep. Lotsa engines around, either due to accidents, or just body rot up here in Salt country, much like my original 89. In fact, Tim Pavlik saved the engine and trans out of that SHO, before he had the rusty shell crushed.
