I've been back and forth on how or if I should put in some fog lights or a light bar. I've seen someone on here mount behind the lower grille which is the best case scenario I can think of. The drive brights are pricey and from what I've heard hit and miss. I drive rural dark roads, deer are a real concern but also I want to take the family to see snow and low mounted ambers are unmatched for snow visibility. Point is, i want them for a purpose not to blind people or pretend to be a cop (i know theres some stigma to the idea).

My 2 questions are what have people used (2 round, 2 square, one big bar, hybrid amber and white) what are some set ups that aren't drl replacement units

and what have people used for a switch. I want to put it maybe in the forward console where the shade button is but I'm hesitant to drill into that piece. Maybe a small flush mount under the headlight switch?

After a lot of research it appears the taurus shares the same headlight switch with the 2009-2014 F150 which has a provision for fog lamps, the housings are identical difference being a 8 pin connector for the taurus with auto lamp and a 10 pin connector for F150 with fog and auto lamp. i am going to pull one out of the junk yard and test fit it in a taurus thats also at the junk yard, if it snaps in then the only thing will be snagging the pigtail from the f150, splicing it into the taurus harness and keeping the extra outputs for the fogs. this is a much cleaner way to add a fog switch without drilling into SHO specific dash pieces (carbon fiber trim) or discontinued parts (forward console with rear blind)

My two cents, I have the drivebrights, they are fine but I don't drive everyday and if the box which heats up - dies - you have to pull all wiring out. That being said they aren't fog lights, they do help but not what you are trying to do.

I like the work you have done, please keep us in the loop for success or problems - hate but will drill the dash if necessary.

Last consideration - don't recall if you are PP or have the transmission cooler etc down in that lower part of the grill. Keep in mind air flow and restrictions.

I would suggest a thin light bar you can mount under the bumper. Some cutting will be required.

Agreed. I have added the PP transmission cooler so that limits placement behind the lower grille. I looked at the blank plates on either side of the grille. The Advanced Cruise Control/Forward Collision Warning radar is behind the driver side.

The DriveBrite is an okay product at best. Mine have failed for the second time and are out of warranty now. I saw someone had created a 3D printed form to go in the corners of the upper grille (similar to the Mustangs) and use LED strips to make a DRL. I am curious about using that and placing a fog/driving light in the center of that.

I love the idea of the F150 switch and hope it works. There is nothing better than factory form in my opinion. After awhile, randomly adding things ends up looking like AutoZone puked on you ride. That was a great idea to check fitment. Explorer may be another option if you can't find a F150 when you are at the yard.

The Exploder is a great idea.

Did the flex come with a switch for fog lights? Maybe elaborate or photo of it if it does?

so the 11-up explorer have the current ford standard (wheel style switch with buttons flanking) the flex has the old style switch (mid to late 00) and then the facelift in 2015 brings it to the same style switch as the explorer. I checked the platform siblings first and the f150 switch came up as a random result so i pursued that option. so far, as far as OEM is concerned, it appears to be the only one that matches and will in theory click right in. I will definitely update with progress/results. @Ta2dResqr I prefer factory fit and finish as much as possible too, and with how clean the dash is on these cars (symmetrical, minimalist, concealed peripheral controls) i want it as clean and functional as possible.

As for the foglamp placement themselves, @kryptto I recently discovered my car is NOT a PP, the wheels threw me when i bought the car and a revived thread gave me the info i needed to figured out its a non PP. That said, I dont want to block anything currently on the car or potentially added in the future, function is #1. I also thought about cutting in to the panels to either side of the lower grille but I dont want to cut in to anything that might be SHO specific and difficult to replace and now knowing the collision sensor is in one of them, i am not disabling that for the sake of lights. I'd have to consider the placement of the trans cooler if i decide to add it in the future (if someone could snap a picture of it and show me how it mounts and where) but im not totally discouraged from mounting it in the lower grille yet. the pic is an example of what I am considering, compact, less than 2" of height and roughly the width of the upper part of the lower grille. the reduced airflow from something this small would be somewhat of a worthy trade off considering the options and checks the concealment and no cutting boxes. but now I would need to see where the trans cooler attaches to make an educated decision. this unit paired with the headlight switch is clean and simple and gives me the extra visibility im after both on long dark roads and snow. I had also considered mounting 2 5" round 05-09 mustang GT fog lamps behind the upper grille so that Id have replaceable bulbs but I figured the air blockage would become an issue.

someone with a 3d printer needs to make fog lamp ready panels to replaced the DRL panels, adapt them to take fusion fog lamps and these problems go away. if I had any clue how to run a 3d printer (and of course owned one) Id make a kit with the switch, panels, lamps, even a harness with a relay. I can picture it in my head but I lack the equipment.

also just checked the MKS, orientation of controls is different, housing is different, and plug is different

2009-2014 F150, 2008-2017 expedition, and 2008-2016 super duty use the same switch so there is plenty to pick from, i'm just hoping I can swap the wheel to really make it look factory
OR
the 13-19 lincoln MKT used the same style switch with the same style wheel, the housings look similar and the plug looks right and the orientation of controls is in order.
