Ive been shopping around for intercoolers. I did a few measurments under the front bumper, there is very little space in there. Anyone run a FMIC? If so, what size is it? Anyone have any pics of the fitment?

Ive been looking at this one.. http://search.ebay.com/intercooler_W0QQfrtsZ250QQfsooZ1QQfsopZ1

Im looking for something not too pricey, and not something too big. 27-28" long does fit pretty nicely in my lower straight pipe ( runs along the front side on the radiator) I gives me a few inches toplay with on each side. Im just a weary about losing too much boost with something that big.

if you want an Chinese unit, I would entertain something like this

I'd shy away from the honda/import type coolers you see with the long, horizontal 'boost channels'. the shorter and more numerous the 'boost channels' the less pressure drop. the link is for one very much like the one I use. you'll have to gut you bumper support out to accommodate fresh air duct regardless.

If you want a FMIC kit for the SHO, contact Chris aka SuperchargedSHOguy, he can hook you up with the best price around. If I didn't find the original SHOShop piping, I was going to go with his FMIC kit. I might still do that down the road, FMIC with water injection! :naughty:

Kenny (NotsoslowSHO), Chris (SuperchargedSHOguy), and Tim (Toolman) I believe are all running intercoolers on their Gen I. I think each of them have posted a pic in other threads. I dont think Chirs posted a good pic of his though, just from the wheel wells. Maybe a search will tell dimensions/pics unless they chime in.

I searched for pics with no luck besides kennys monster of an intercooler haha. Still very nicely done.

Yea its already cleared out under there, fitting the piping and the cooler should be pretty easy. Just dont want to spend 100$ and have some cheap crap delivered to my door more or less. Im thinking I can get away with something small, maybe a OE stock unit from a supra or a volvo.

Contact Chris, you will be surprised at the cost he charges! He can also make it how you want, diameter size, intercooler size, t-clamps or regular clamps, and ect. He will tell you what's the best bet without trying to get you to buy the most expensive stuff available.

There's pics of his set up, I will look for them here real quick.

custom intercooler = :dribble: x4

heres a shot of the ATX sans bumper, the aluminum duct fits right into the opening on a G2 bumper to scoop and force air right into the core. I know it's flimsy, but I didn't want to make it too heavy duty incase I crash.

I've done some research on the ebay intercoolers and from what I've ready they're actually OK. I've read on multiple forums that people have been using them for thousands of miles. The only ones that I have read about blowing up are the ones that are pushing rediculous boost like 25 psi. Just don't go buying any ebay turbos ;)

Here are some picture of the car with a custom s/c system.

Actually it is no longer together.

Don't worry, LOL

The parts are being used on another SHO build-up. I just need to find time to get the car done.

I dunno how much boost you're planning to run, but I saw an MB CLK Kompressor today at my buddy's body shop and it has I'd say a small/medium size intercooler that IMO would be perfect behind a sho bumper.
