I know this has been posted before, and I rad a bunch of them, but I wanted to see what the temperature had to do with this...

Alright, I had a 'spirited' drive last night, and right when I pulled into
my friends drive way, the oil light flickered a little. No knocks, nothing
else, just a little flicker of the light. When I opened the hood, there was
a puff of white smoke, and I noticed that the car was running REALLY
hot....up to the N....if I drive it normally, it sits at the A, hard,
between R and M.

Same thing happened on the way home from work about 20min ago.....came off
the highway to a stop and the light flickered and lit up, so I shut it off
immediately. Same thing, the car was running hot. Turned it back on, and
it was fine, no light.

Both times, it was on an incline facing up, if that matters.

Here are the details...
210k kms
original waterpump, new radiator in 99
original oil pump
original rod bearings
Currently 4000kms on Castrol Syntec 10w30, level within acceptable range.
Coolant levels acceptable.

Any ideas? I am planning on switching the oil to GTX next oil change, but I
am slightly alarmed at the oil pressure light coming on. I am planning on a
60k within the next few weeks, and was (sorta) planning on doing the rod
bearings. I don't think it would be the sensor, because it fainthly flickers, which doesn't seem like a bad sensor to me...

Thanking in advance

Bye bye Yamaha, my light first came on on inclines and when warmed up. Forget that GTX, get your bearings done NOW before it's too late frown

Is this the end of my engine, or can I try and replace the rod bearings and save the engine?

I just took it out for a spin, and couldn't get it to light at all....

I wouldn't drive on it at all. Park it and replace those bearings before you F things up. Driving it more like you are doing is causing more harm to your crank.

May be more than rod bearings. I had a main go with beginning indications just like this.

Note: You can change both the rod and main bearings with the motor in the car.

SHODUDE,

I have heard bad rod bearings and loose wrist pins before, but what do the mains sound like when they are badly worn?

Alright....had her out all night....no sign of any knocking or the light in question, but on another note, it seems my car my be having some sorta heat management problem. And this seems to be directly relating to the oil light, as it has only come on when the needle was very close to or on N...

If the pressure sensor is shot and there is oil leaking from it, could this cause these symptoms?

Dude.....why are you still driving on it??? Seriously.......PARK IT!!!!!!!! The damn idiot lights usually come on when it's too late so now it's even later. Take off the freaking oil pan and look. If they are fine, then you didn't lose out on anything.

A faulty sensor would not cause what you're describing. Park the car, do the bearings, save your car and have piece of mind.

The light comes on when it gets hot because heat makes the oil flow easier.Stop driving it,or....

The idiot light doesn't come on until oil pressure is under 5 psi. That should give you something to think about. I know it seems like everyone is being harsh, but we have seen this a lot lately (especially Denny :( ) and we know what happens when you drive a SHO with worn bearings.

SHOBoom :p

Bottom line is if you keep driving that car you're going to have a heavy ass paperweight with a beautiful intake. frown
