I see that a lot of you are using the FL-1A filter insted of the regular one. I understand that it provides an increase in oil capacity but are there any reasons not to use it?

Some people argue that it is too close to the exhaust manifold and will get too hot. I've never had any problems in the 4 years that I've been using them.

Thanks for the quick replies! I'm just finishing up my 60K and rod bearings and figured the extra oil definitely couldn't hurt. Thanks again.

Good general information IMO:

While you are down there, take a look at the oil cooler to block gasket. You can do this with your 30mm hub socket (assuming you have one...I didn't until last summer). Chances are that gasket is toast and leaking oil on your starter. You can use your old oil filter gasket as a replacement.

Edit: I guess I just added that to my list of crap to do this spring too....ARG!

I've got ~10+ years using the larger filter, on my MTX. Never had an issue.

i know from experience, it will not fit a 3.2:banghd:

Well that sucks! Is it because the motor is moved up farther in the engine compartment?

Well maybe I'll try a relocation kit to get a little extra oil in the system (not to mention less oil on my starter when changing the filter). :thumb:

It will fit the 3.2 with the ATX, I've done it but the extra work to get it on wasn't even worth it. I don't really see a point of buying them anyway, I just got stuck with it because WalMart didn't have the correct ones at the time.

Thanks for the tip. I'll definitely check that before I button it all back up. :thumb:

Denny did something weird. I have a 3.2L MTX, and I'm rockin' an FL-1A.
