Well I got my hands a nice 96 SHO! I only paid $300 for the car but it has transmission problems, but everything else is very nice.

My question is this, before I start looking into a new or rebuilt transmission I want a ball park price on what you guys paid. Also this is why i think the tranny is bad.. I started the car up and stuck it into drive and no movment at all kinda sounded boggy, then I checked the fluid and it was dry!:woo-hoo: She said it leaked alittle but dang. So I added more and it shifted but slipped gears bad...

Give me your thoughts.

Jerry

Find some of the local MI folks in the subforums at the bottom of the board and ask around for people who do good tranny work. I think Beth (Bizzy) who runs this board does tranny work and is in MI.

Jerry, welcome to the board
You will also want to look into the cam problems that these v8's have. If the cams in your car have not been welded you'll want to have that done ASAP.

Well i finally got the car in my yard now I'm going to do a transmission filter change to see if that helps tomorrow.. And to see the color of the trans oil. Is there a drain plug? any tips would be nice.

Thanks again guys,
Jerry

Only $800 to have the trans pulled rebuilt and put back together. Cant beat that.

Jerry

Well, I guess it depends how serious you are with the car. If it's nice, and you are gonna keep it awhile, I would recommend a Ford reman from FPS with the upgrades. http://www.fordspecialists.com/

Gonna cost in the $2-3K range plus installation, but for a long term deal, IMO it's cost-effective.

though i've never had anything done with any of my trannys at FPS, i'll vouch for em being a kick ass shop. i've had plenty of work done there myself, and even drove down from michigan to have the cams welded in my wife's 98.
