First Post/ Plasti dipped rear trim

So I've been lurking on this forum for a while now, I've decided to share with you all my 2013 SHO and the changes I made to it this weekend.


This is the prep I did before plasti dipping

I took this at around 3 very light coats

After I took everything off and peeled away what I didn't want

A picture of the Airaid I put in on Friday

Finally a picture of the front for your enjoyment.

Any thoughts to what color I should paint the engine cover? I picked up a can of metallic blue paint, but am open to any suggestions. Also has anyone dipped the grill or window trim? looking for suggestions on what to tape off and how.

Take the front bumper off and remove the surround, then spray it. Looks like a worse job than it really is.

Hey Boggus, thanks for the tip, dipped the grill before I saw your post. I just masked off the grill sliding the tape into the space between the mesh and surround. I also dipped the window trim although I'll need to eventually redo it as the edges are a bit rough, but it'll do for now.

I was just looking at the background in your pictures and thinking it looked like Tivoli. I live about 15 min from there. grewup a bout five min from there. Small world.

@Ishodu- you can get plasti dip from Lowes, Home depot, Ace hardware or from an online vendor.

@Boggus- did not take any, but am fixing up a couple of pieces later this weekend I'll be sure to take some then.

@mutkokhan- that it is, but I'm actually just going to school here, leaving after I graduate. =/

I have also already ordered a case of glossifier, and when I have the chance I will be painting the lower cladding gloss black. I know that it isn't going to match the tuxedo black, but I figure the gloss black is still a lot better than the fading matte black-grey I have on there right now.

Will be doing all the painting mentioned before either Sunday or Monday next week. Will be taking pictures regardless, but if there's enough interest I would be willing to write up a guide regarding taping things off.

Hey guys, dumb question. What exactly is plasti dipping? How did you prep the surfaces? What kind of paint did you use on the engine cover and how did you prep that? I think the trim and cover look beautiful, but I'm paranoid about scratches and peeling. Thanks.

The best way i can explain plasti dip is that it is a kind of spray on colored latex. What i did for prep was simply make sure that everything that I wanted to paint be clean. Soap and water is usually fine. As for scratches and peeling, if you do it right, couple of thin coats first and then 2-3 thicker coats, it should not peel without you purposely wanting it to peel off. I will do a write up once I have more time to plasti dip again. In the mean time there are countless videos on youtube that will show you how to do it. As for the engine cover, I used red plasti dip and after more than a week of driving, it shows no signs of peeling.
