Before I go to the trouble of finding a place that would do a group buy on racing seats, is there a big interest for them? Expect to spend between $500-1000.

Just a reliable place to get the propper brackets would be worth the group buy startup. There are tons of badass seats available right now but the unavailability of the propper brackets for our floor pan is the only hold back. Summit sells some really nice Euro style leather like sport buckets for $209 each. Thats a dang good deal if you ask me. Corbeau makes some really nice black leather racing seats for $359 each. Let me know.

Depending on what they are. Actual fixed back racing seats, or street type seats that recline? Leather, or other materials? Might be interested.

sliding brackets are actually available from Corbeau. I bought a pair of seats and brackets from racingseatsusa.com a couple years ago. The only issues were ther price of brackets, and the fact that the driver's side had to be cut apart and rewelded to fit the center console.

FWIW, you could buy a set of universal slider mechanisms, and bolt them to a simple home-made bracket to make your own sliding brackets.

Although I am not interested in getting in on a group buy, I would vote the the buy would be for a set of working brackets that don't cost $90 a piece. Picking a seat to go with the brackets should be up to the buyer.

Good luck! :thumb:

I second making our own brackets....and I think seats could be found for less than $500 as well. Also I don't know if anyone else has been in racing seats before...but they don't all fit all body types...**** even two people of the same size might find the same seat uncomfortable...so either it has to be uber-adjustable, or we all need to go to a race shop and sit in some seats and buy online :p

I have a set of the Corbeau slider brackets and Corbeau Forza II fixed back seats, bought them in late 1997, the brackets were about $60 each. They fit the Gen 1 floorpan almost perfectly; IIRC, I had to enlarge one hole very slightly, which just amazed me because most aftermarket parts require an inordinate amount of fit/file/cut-apart/re-weld, and generally filling the garage with foul language. My neighbors know me as the guy who works on racecars, listens to classical music while working, and cusses..., a lot.

The Corbeau sliders only latch on one side, which makes the seat mount sort of woggly in a rotation sort of way, so I modified the brackets to latch both sliders. The Corbeau brackets will accomodate bottom mount seats, you'll be doing some more fabrication if you buy side mount seats.

Be aware that some of Corbeau's race seats don't have FIA certification (this could mean that they didn't pass certification, or they weren't submitted...), which might concern you if you're going to do serious track events and want a seat that is safe and will protect you in a crash. If this is just for street bLinG, concern yourself not...

Latest FIA seat certification list, 7-9-2005, pdf

Be prepared to put 5-point belts in the car, as high side, fixed back race seats will not allow the safe use of the 3-point OEM belts.

Carry on, be safe,

Gary M.
