I picked up an express down module from a junkyard a few days ago and plan to make my sunroof "express open." My only problem is that I dont know what each wire on the sunroof switch corresponds to. So if someone can look in a wiring diagram and let me know which wire is which, I'll post pictures of the process so you can do it also.

thanks,

Paul, run a search on this topic (try moonroof modification). It's been a while but there is a web page link somewhere where someone fabbed a new switch. I'm pretty sure there was wiring info on that link that would help you.

I have thought about this myself. There are four wires that correspond to the motor assembly. When you pair them up a certain way it opens/closes. The thing is....the wires need to pair up oppositely to perform the negated previous operation. The express down module that I got had five wires coming out of them. I don't think that it has the provision to reverse polarity within the unit. You may even burn it out, I didn't want to try it. If you come up with something you WILL be the man! thumbs_u beer

I think someone found a place that does custom sunroofs. Through them, they could make one touch open and close sunroofs. Search through the forum and I know you will find it, I don't quite remember the name of the website.

Ok, I looked at a couple links and figured out what the wires each go to. The switch has 4 wires:
-red (+)
-black (-)
-yellow/blue (appears to go from the side of the switch that closes the roof)
-yellow/red (appears to go from the side of the switch that opens the roof)

The express module has 5 connections. The extra one is because the yellow/red wire will get cut and fed into one connection and then back out of another connection and to the sunroof motor.

From looking at the schematic, it seems like the same setup as the windows. Is there any reason it will not work and I will burn something up? I ask because I really dont want to replace the switch, motor or anything else up there.

thanks,
Paul

I think there is a motor cut off when it is fully opened/closed in either of the two modes (slide back/tilt). I recall reading that in other posts but I am not a Webasto Starlight IV professional. Speaking of which maybe you could contact Webasto directly and ask.
