So I have a noisy wrist pin in my #6 cylinder on my 92 mtx. I have a spare 94 mtx parts car and was wondering if it's doable to just change out the rod and piston from the 94 to the 92 or is it better to find a wrist pin and replace it on the 92? The 92 motor was mostly rebuilt 10k ago, but no new pistons or rods were replaced.

Swap the rod and piston from the 94 into the 92.

I have not experienced a bad wrist pin in the 3.0. It could be a cracked skirt on the piston, but you will not know until you take it apart.

I don't know how to determine if a wrist pin is bad, would it be bad clearances in the rod end, the piston, or would it be the pin itself? For that reason, I would do the replacement, but if you can, you could consider repairing what you have.

I've done and replaced just about everything under the sun to determine it's a wrist pin....it came down to telltale signs... it's a ticking more than a knock noise, and the noise is only there under a load, the noise disappears when #6 spark plug wire is pulled.

That is the good test.

Small chance it could be the rod bearing, but that probably got swapped in your latest rebuild.

I would replace #6 with a #6. I have never had good luck criss-crossing parts.

I replaced the rod bearing at the beginning of all this...the one I took out from the rebuild looked like new still, but replaced anyway.
I planned on taking out the #6 from the parts car if I'm going to swap the rods
