About how long will it take to do a full upper 100k? I'm just wondering b/c I no longer have a heated garage to do this work in and I will be forced to do it underneath a carport cover. It is cold out. I have 106k miles on the car and I will not be driving it much until spring and summer. Should I just wait? I have to seal up the rocker rust with my por-15 kit at least over Christmas break.

Well I did mine in 6 hours and that is including making a stupid mistake and having to spend the last two hours struggling to get the rear intake plenum bracket since I didn't start it before putting the intake manifold on.

So take that out and its 4 hours, I'm no novice to a wrench but it was the most in depth work I'd ever done on my own car.

I'd say suit up and do it in a few sessions, but I'm stubborn and don't let the cold stop me ;)

You should wait. Here are a few of the prerequisites from my valve gapping procedure. Not only will the cold numb your fingers, it will likely result in a non-optimal setting of the gaps.

1. The engine should be at the ambient temperature that the engine operates in during its use. Performing the gap adjustment with the engine temperature in the range of 40 F to 90 F should be acceptable.

2. The procedure should be performed in a closed environment such as a garage if possible. Blowing dust in an outdoor setting could be damaging to the engine when it is restarted.

3. A clean lay-down area should be available to store the parts as they are removed from the engine. Paper or cloth towels on the floor will be adequate for this purpose.

Thanks for the replies, guys. I didn't know about the prerequisites. I have done engine procedures under carport covers before (where I would be doing it, probably). I am organized about doing that kind of work. :).

Thanks again.
