How much would a engine/transmission rebuild cost? I want to do this at the same time so when I start college I won't have to worry about it. I am located in Michigan. what would you think a fair price would be?

3-5 grand if you have everything done for you.

Forget it, the car isn't worth that much.

It depends on what he wants to do with the car... If he wants to keep it and take care of it and the rest of the car is in good condition, then that is for him to decide. If he is looking for a reliable car for college and you don't have a lot of money.... get a Toyota or Honda.

I just called a transmission shop and they said that it doesn't sound like the trans needs to be rebuilt. It sputters while shifting gears from 1st to 2nd. The engine is in awesome shape, I just thought I should have it rebuilt before college...just in case, is there any others things i should look into before I start?

These engines seldom need to be rebuilt. They are tough engines and can withstand a lot of miles before needing a complete teardown and rebuild.

Unless you have facts to the contrary, my guess is that yours does not.

This is a nice car, and I would love to keep it. I am getting it checked out today. Thanks for commenting instead of bashing. Later

VTOWNSHO,

There is an old adage for car owners and mechanics, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it"!

If you have some money, put it aside for future repairs or things that need to be maintained.
