As a shade tree mechanic I want to get a used engine and rebuild it as new(as possible). If I assume all major parts are in good condition such as crank, no cracks in heads, block is solid, cams within specs..what am I looking at in part?

When I rebuilt my motor.....machine work well that really depends on a shop and how much they do. Bearings and rings...about $200, gaskets...maybe $200-250, depending on how much you replace. Sensors and other odds and ends can add up quick, but it is best to do them with the motor apart.
