Hello,
I changed my engine oil yesterday and I noted a slight hint of red coloring of the old oil. The oil pan had the red fluid on the bottom as well so I just thought that it may have been a transmission oil leak. So I wiped up all the oil on the crankcase and transmission pan and continued with my work.

I put in regular colored oil. (not royal purple or redline). Last night after warming up the motor everything looked just fine. The oil was a normal color as if it was poured directly from the bottle.

This morning I checked the oil and now it has that red tint. Why?? Where is the source of his red tint?

Is it possible to have the transmission fluid leak into the engine? I do not see how it would be possible? Is this just rust from inside the engine since I do not drive the car very often? Do I have another problem? I checked the Transmission fluid and everything seems to be okay. I also checked the radiator fluid and that is also okay.

The engine sounds very quiet and runs flawlessly.

I am the only one that turns the wrenches on this vehicle except for the recent visit to the dealership for recall on the cruise control. Of course they tried to get me to change the oil saying it needed to be changed as well as other maintenance items I always perform myself.

The SHO has just shy of 130K and had the last 60K maintenance at 120k.

Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like it needs to get a good cleaning in there.... the transmission and engine have no way meet one another, so in that it's just really dirty in there

bubba,
For the 60k Maintenance at 120k, the engine was exceptionally clean inside the valve covers. No gunk buildup at all. Just a discoloring from the oil.

I can see in through the oil fill cap and it looks clean inside.

Do you think that it would be okay to make a long road trip and then change the oil again when I get back?

Thanks,
Michael

The SHO is a great for Road Trips. 26~27 mpg is not bad even when I have the trunk completely full. Set the cruise and go.............

Thanks for the advise,
Michael
