My '92 SHO started bogging down pretty bad yesterday. I floored it and it bogged like mad, for maybe one second, then ****** really hard as the power kicked in for a second. It bogged again, then the power came on again. It bogged very quickly one or two more times in the next 20 seconds, then it stopped doing it. Hasn't happened again, but I haven't driven it much since then either.

It's got about 307k, but I keep it fairly well maintained. I don't drive it much anymore, but I've been driving it a few times a day for the past two weeks.

My initial thoughts are DIS or cam position sensor.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

I think the most popular answer you'll get is: have you pulled codes? When was the first time these problems cropped up?

I haven't pulled the codes since no check engine light came on. I'll pull them and see if something shows up.

The problem just started yesterday. Nothing's happened to the car recently to cause such a problem. Well, 307k miles happened to it. lol But it's fairly well maintained.

I always forget the MAF causes stuff like this. I put another MAF on the car and it accelerates better now, and the problem has ceased. If the problem returns, I'll post again and we can continue this conversation.

Thanks for the help.

Drove it yesterday and today without issue. Pretty sure it's fixed now. :) Thanks again.

UPDATE: No, the MAF didn't fix it. Neither did changing the DIS module. Cam sensor is the last thing I can think of to do.

LOL Nah... I still see that car as barely limping along. When it was my main car, I was constantly replacing things on it. So, if it's not barely limping along now, all I have to do is drive it some more and it'll earn that description once again. lol

My bogging problem is back again. So the MAF was not the problem. I tried changing the DIS module next. No luck there. I'm changing the cam sensor soon. I think that's about the only other thing it can be. It bogs a lot now, and turns off. I'll let you know if the cam sensor fixes it just in case anyone else has this problem and searches through to this thread.

just because the cel is not on does not mean there are no codes.

there are always codes, even if its just 111 for all clear.

you can keep throwing money at it, or you can pull the codes so people can actually help you. its your money and your choice.

I Agree - Pull Codes

Pulling the codes is the way to go.

My wife's '92 had just about the same symptoms as your car; that ended with us changing the cam sensor, and that cured the problem. There was no code indicating a bad cam sensor, even a stored code. The CEL was on, but the code was for a bad barometric pressure switch /sensor (BPS). Changed the BPS, the surging at idle went away; changed the cam sensor, and the symptoms you are describing in your car went away.

I know this is an old thread and I don't know how to make a new one.
Just put a new motor in my 93 sho mtx and it bogs down between 2-3k rpms. I've checked all vacuum lines
Changed iac and dis
I don't know how to pull codes

Please learn how to use the search feature - it keeps you from hijacking other's threads and gets you an answer sooner. There are only about 100 other threads where this has been posted:
http://www.troublecodes.net/ford/

Then, go to this page:
http://shoforum.com/index.php?forums/gen-1-2-engine-exhaust-drive-line-ac-syste.22/

and look at the top right where there is a large red button that says "post new thread" and start a thread with your issue and the codes you find.

btw, welcome to the forum. We're happy to help, but just want to keep things organized.
