So i took my new white 90 to get emission tested so i could register it, and of course it failed. The hydro carbon portion of the test failed. So i was wondering if there is a certain cause for this on the SHOS? I was told the reason for it failing could be, bad egr valve, bad cats, and my motor could be operating too hot. Any one have any ideas? i need to get this done tomorrow or else i have to go another week without az plates.

Well, It could be the cats. It could need a good tune-up. Guaranteed it's not the EGR valve(if your car even has one) and it's not due to a hot running motor(overly cold -maybe). So, I'd recommend doing a tune up with plugs and wires, swapping out the Y-pipe(I have a good catted Y you can borrow), fillin' up with 91 octane and some Techron, drive it a bit and retry.

Let it cool and check the level in the radiator itself just to keep the motor at a safe temp. The car probably needs a tune-up anyway and let me know if you need those cats. Good luck:thumb:

Very likely your rad cap is not holding pressure properly. I had the same issue on my '89 for a while, then just tried to change the cap on a whim, problem solved. No more losing rad fluid.

If you just want the car to pass without doing any work, just buy a bottle or gauranteed to pass (that's the actual name). Fil it with ultra, drop this stuff in, drive until your tank is empty, and you will pass next e-test. I had another '89 a long time ago, high mileage, tuneup never done, and this stuff made it pass when it had been over on every part of the test.
