Couple questions for teh SHO forum.
Anyone try the checker/kragen/advanced-auto-parts motormite speedometer cable listed for teh SHO (or where should i go for one)? we all know how accurate databases can be.

And secondly im thinking about blocking off the egr and swaping in a 49 state ecu. What should i use to block off the exhaust side? i was thinking about making a sheetmetal blocking plate for the intake, but i dont know if it would take the heat on the exhaust.

I didn;t think the SHO even had an EGR function. Or did they have it in the California models?

when my tube broke on my ATX, I used the ****** with a piece of sheet metal and a gasket on either side to cover the hole.

I then removed the tube from the valve and did the same thing...

that way, the EGR equipment is still 'there' and will pass the visual test for a smog test...

Chances are that your EGR tube has a crack in it. I had the same thing happen on my 89 years ago. I also thought that the speedo cable had just gotten too close, but it was a pinhole in the EGR tube shooting hot exhaust gases on the cable.

Glen, I just went out and checked and the braiding around the tube in that area is split. I'll have to take the tube off to examine it more but it looks like your dead-on.

My speedo has been making the traditional noise for quite some time. It started this cold winter probably from the old lubricant drying up. Just yesterday it began bouncing. It bounced all this morning and is quite annoying because I use the speedo a lot for timing my shifts for maximum fuel economy.

I did a search on the forum for speedometer and came back with over 150 results. Sure enough sdpatt knows what's up and said you can go to rockauto.com. A search turned up Motormite part #03239 for the upper cable. It's located under the body-interior section of their database. You can also purchase just the core for $3.82

I'm gonna try and **** the cable and see if that fixes it. Might as well **** the speedometer as well.

I'm glad that's over with. The clips that connect the 2 cables are simply ridiculous to take off. I resorted to tugging it out and then pushing it back in. Worked like a charm. Removing the speedometer cable was also a lot of fun. There's not much room to remove the cluster either. I had to remove the top and bottom ignition shrowds. Inspection of the cable reveiled some hardened brown grease where the 2 cables connect. I put some high quality stuff on the speedo bushing and lubed the cable with lithium. Works like a charm now.
