Not to sound like a ****, but what you got up front???

Because the fronts would have to be awesome for such a sweet set of speakers to be used for **gasp** rear fill!!!!!

I had a feeling someone would ask me why the **** I put the dynaudios in the rear. I am running a MB Quart 2004 PCE 210 and PCE 164 combo (3 way component set) which i found to actually sound better than the dynaudios except a rediculously high volume levels :) . I have the tweeter right behind the side mirrors and a 4" in the dash in the factory 3.5" spot and the 6.5" add a woofer in the door. Which turned out pretty nice because the speakers are all within about 4" of each other.

the MBs sound better than the dynaudios? wow! would have never guessed that. maybe they don't like being in the door?

dynaudios are awesome drivers. they are used in a lot of high end home audio, like wilson-watt and totem.

i had a pair do dyna D28AF tweeters in my home speakers for a while. i gave them to my friend to put in his vintage infinities. great tweets.

there are some decent lower cost euro drievrs from peerless and seas as well.

see ya,
Robby

I like the install of the woofer and the mid. But u should have mounted your tweeter on you B piplar so that it points to u up front there. I have mb quarts all around in my. And thats what i did. I takes a while to get the postioning of the tweeter right before u drill your hole. But when u get it done it looks good. Just takes time... :D But it looks good man. And i beat it sounds good too.

Yeah,

I should have mounted the tweeter closer to the mid and woofer but the metal for the rear deck is really weak and I think that if i had cut more out of it, it would be less stiff which = more rattles. I am not familier with what you mean by "B-Pillar," where is it? The key to this install was to keep it looking factory, from outside the car you cant really tell I have these expensive (and very stealable) speakers except for in the front you can barely see the mb quart tweeter because the titanium is so reflective. Someone suggested to me that I try to modify the rear door panels and put yet another 3-way component set in them and make it look factory still, I might try this as i have plenty of wattage to go around :) . Gotta wait for money, first I have to get a 200 amp alternator, PG Line Driver and a Nakamichi headunit.

Ok if your install plan was to make it look as factory as possible then that's cool! thumb The B pillar is the part in the back seat, where there is a triangle pieace of glass "window". And that plastice trim pieace around it is called that. I guess.. I have herd it called that before. Thats where i mounted mine out. and pointed them to the front. So you get the sound stageing right.... I'm happy with it! :D

The B-pillar is the thing that when you are sitting ghetto-style in the driver's seat, and you look directly to your left, you see. It the pillar where the top seatbelt mount is.

When it comes to stereo speakers, more is not better.

Audio is so individual; that is what makes it so very compelling for everyone of us. As I have said before, there is no "best". Sure there are more expensive or hand crafted items but that does not make them better if ones' ears don't like the sound.

In my personal cars I use Dynaudio (3 ways) and Focal (Audiom/Utopia/Poly-kev mid). For low end I use JL W7's. To me it depends on my mood as to which I like better that day. Recently I have been experimenting with Dyn's Esotec. While I truly enjoyed the Esotar, it just doesn't lend itself to the space that I have provided for it.

I enjoy reading and looking at pictures of the various combinations of stereo equipment that have been presented here.

cheers!

It's pretty simple, really. The A-pillar is the metal thingy that goes from your dashboard to your ceiling. You know, where the windshield mounts to. It's also where people like to put those gauge-pod thingies.

The B-pillar is the next metal thingy back, where the front door latches to and the rear door hinges off of.

The C-pillar is the metal thing in the rear, where the back window mounts to. It runs from the rear parcel shelf(??) to the ceiling and is the opposite end of said windshield.

Anyway, as long as you have great components up front, I'll let Dynaudios in the rear go this time. But do you really need to run tweeters in the rear? Do you have them toned down at all??

Hey kaotic, good to read from you again.

Wow, one thing that catches my ye is thats a Gen 1, I believe an 89 I forgot to look if it has center caps on the rims or not. But isn't that a Gen 2 rear deck in your car? It looks real nice, but you have the silver interior which was an 89 only thing. So where did you get Silver interior from a Gen 2?

I believe that all years of the SHO were avaliable with a grey interior, the rear deck panel i took out of a 94 taurus GL or LX or something. Yes it is an 89. I got the seats off ebay not too long ago $100 for both fronts and the rear :) .

jason (kaotic),

what are you using for amps? i recently was in a baysho member's clean as heck 91. he was running mcintosh amps. forget the speakers. top of the line alpine deck. he put on some pipe organ music. shook the whole car.

what are the top components for car audio as far as amps and decks? we are talking ulta high end, burr brown dacs, the whole shebang. how are mcintosh decks?

i always wondered why ultra audiophile companies haven't gottn more into hi fi car audio. like krell, jeff rowland, etc.

Why ruin a perfectly good reputation in the car audio realm. It is near impossible to make the highest end auto system come close in imaging and quality of the above average home audio system.

Plus, the money is all in home audio. Cars depreciate. Homes appreciate. Car audio systems often reduce the value of the car. A custom built home audio setup will increase the value. Never mind you can finance a home system when you build a home from scratch. The money in home dwarfs the money in car audio.
