A couple of quick questions:
Has there been an established number for horsepower/torque that the drivetrain can withstand?
What is the highest dynoed number to date for horsepower/torque?

Are you driving a 2010 SHO? you're in that section. Are you asking about the V6, V8, or the new 3.5 2010. By drivetrain I'll assume you're including the trans, that's usually the weakest link.

I am not currently driving a 2010 SHO, but I am closing in on a new car purchase and I am looking for a replacement to my modified 2006 Dodge Magnum R/T AWD.
All my questions are in reference to the Generation 4 SHO. I know with my vehicle the well known weak link is the transfer case. I am just wondering which part is most likely to fail in the SHO once modifications get to the point of really pushing these cars to their limits.

so far, i've only heard of grenaded engines. i've yet to hear of a power related trans failure...or any trans failure for that matter. i have heard mumblings about the DI system being the limiting factor, though. poke around in this section...you'll find a write-up about it.

I haven't heard of a power related drivetrain failure yet either. I don't think anyone truly knows or has pushed the limits enough yet to find out. Not saying I make the most power but I have to be near the top and ive had no issues YET. I'm trying out a new tune this week at the track to try to unseat beefcake and I'll let everyone know how it goes.

How much horsepower do you think you are producing over stock?

Over stock....a touch over 100 in some parts of the powerband, I think peak....85 or so. You can check out the dyno video on Livernois website

To be clear I wasn't trying to be a douche, I didn't know you were talking about Gen IV. I was kinda surprised by the question on such a new car. I think people are just getting their feet wet and havn't really found a common weak link.

I'd kinda like to know the limit of the clutch, gears, and axles, as well. Honestly, I'm kinda surprised these convos aren't organized into drivetrain, engine, etc,..etc..

those limits haven't been reached yet. the only failures i've heard of were due to over-enthusiastic tunes. to the best of my knowledge no one's popped a tranny or any other driveline part.

I've only heard of one SHO blow up and it was somewhere in Florida. Did we ever find out the story?

There have been reports of a couple blown motors, and the one you speak in Fla I think was the first. I know what happened but cannot go into any details as not to point any fingers. I can say really low 12s is what cost the engine its life, and it looks like Beefcake had got out while the getting was good with his performance numbers. Right around that time frame is when it was all going down.

so what might it have been? -- over-revving, too radical a tune, driver error??????
Just wondering, and not bashing; just want to learn from someone's misfortune.

C.

He was just joking saying it wasnt the 12 seconds that cost the car its life. It was a result of whatever the owner did to achieve the 12 second time ;)

didn't that engine eat itself due to an unfortunate combination of too much timing and not enough fuel? i seem to recall it not being boost related...

Probably a combination of a few things. I spoke to the victim but he didn't really come off of the reasoning. I too just wanted to learn "what not to do" myself. He did tell me it wasn't timing or a too lean issue.
