I dont think it was the low 12's that cost the engine![]()
I understand that......Just wondering what it was that may have caused the grenade.

Living in the "Motor City" I've talked to all kinds of engineers that have been involved in this platform in one way or another and they all have some idea on what will fail. Halfshafts and PTU seem to lead the pack. However all of them say there haven't really been to many failures at all. They've also said the engine is capable of making more power but was detuned to get the transmission to last however many 100s of thousands of miles
I've only heard of one SHO blow up and it was somewhere in Florida. Did we ever find out the story?
There have been reports of a couple blown motors, and the one you speak in Fla I think was the first. I know what happened but cannot go into any details as not to point any fingers. I can say really low 12s is what cost the engine its life, and it looks like Beefcake had got out while the getting was good with his performance numbers. Right around that time frame is when it was all going down.
Think you can go to Beefcake's posts (later ones) and read more on this. Sort of remember it was a timing issue but don't quote me.
so what might it have been? -- over-revving, too radical a tune, driver error??????
Just wondering, and not bashing; just want to learn from someone's misfortune.

Thanks for chiming in Beefcake. Any info is much appreciated for those of us who want to try to avoid a similar problem.

The article above makes me believe that these motors are built to take a beating!
