My Idle seems a little erratic. I replace the everything i could think of that would cause it...i think. I have a 93 Mtx and advance has 3 different DIS Mods and i was wondering if the $196 one is the one i want or not

A new DIS module isn't going to fix a bad idle. Look elsewhere for the source of the problem.

Vaccum leak, or clean the IAB. That's where I would start.

a bad DIS would have drivability issues.. bad miss, low power.. etc...

As stated i would look for (listen for) vaccum leaks...

probably the intake cupplers, if i had to guess... they crack and let un-metered air into the engine.

I disagree!!!:naughty: I had an issue a few months back with a horrible idle and the car was running on 4 cylinders (2 fouled plugs). Replaced plugs, then coil...nothing. Swapped on a DIS from the parts car and she fired right up!

The point is that the DIS module is either working properly or it isn't. It won't malfunction only at idle; it will be bad throughout the RPM range. The OP's concern has to do with idle only.

I'd be interested to hear how the original poster's car is while driving, not just at idle...

In my case the faulty DIS had caused plugs to foul, therefore poor idle as well as drivability. If his car drives fine then I'm stumped.

Mike,

You noted a particular symptom (two cylinders out) that the DIS can, and often does, specifically cause. Your rough idle was due to this dropout of the two cylinders.

The OP probably hasn't drilled down to that specific information yet. He needs to report some more info before anything more focused can be suggested.

I, also, would suggest that he focus on possible vacuum leaks or the possibility of either fuel supply or a flaky sensor.

DIS module trouble and...?

I had a problem develop a few days ago...no fire to a couple of cylinders, but they would occasionally come back online while driving. I had a spare DIS module, so I swapped it out and things are fine now. One question though. Does the module directly affect the tach reading, or was that simply a by-product of the missing cylinders? The tach would read about 1/2 the regular r.p.m.s when I was having this trouble. When all cylinders were firing, regular tach readings. Also, does the DIS module have any effect on anything else electrical? At the same time I was having trouble with the DIS, I would get no power to the auto-lamp switch (no little yellow light on the slider). Just wondering if there was any corrolation with the two.
